I'm a beginner wanting to learn an electric mainly for rock/prog rock which I hope to be eventually playing in the future. I'm looking for a cheap, but good quality sounding amp. Can anyone recommend any? My budget is $300 for an amp.

Vox Valvetronix is a good one. On ebay you can find it on different prices, from 170$ to 500$.

I would definitely recommend line 6. I would start out with a 15 watt practice amp. It gets very loud for its size (probably louder than you really need). But you can get a Line 6 Spider lll for around $100. Its got 4 built in channels clean, crunch, metal, and insane (my personal fave!) and not to mention you can customize and save the settings if you like them better. Its got 2 effect knobs. each with 4 effects on each knob (although you can only use 2 at a time). But it still makes a good amp for a begginer and beyond! If you buy it you'll have it for a while.

u can get small ibanez's and marshals and lin e 6's at $100...but if u want 2 spend 300 i would go wit a bigger line 6 especailly for beginner. With those you dont really need to no about the settings. they hav songs programmed into them so the settings r exact for a certain song. its called a line 6 spider and they hav different sizes. the more wats the more the cost. hope i helped

Ehm..

This course is even better than a personal guitar teacher http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=554

the site has thousands of videos and well explained lessons, everything is explained step by step and it's easy to follow. I haven't found any better online training course elsewhere.

Have a nice day
