I still need to get After Bathing at Baxter's on CD.
The other Airplane albums from that era are all worth a listen - patchily excellent is the description that comes to mind.
As a bass player & music lover, the Airplane was vastly superior as far as making bold statements musically, with a delightfully creative rhythm section (Jack Casady is one of the most underrated bass players around - though I may have a slightly biased opinion on that point, lol). Riki is correct about the Starship going for commercial success - which they did achieve. Having said that, I really like "Jane" and "Find Your Way Back". Admittedly they're 'easy to digest' rock songs, but at the same time it's harmless rocking you can groove to in a car or on a subway train. I'll even admit that "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is listenable - my fiancee likes that sort of pop fluff, so I always keep my ears open for something she might like that I can tolerate. Marty is the more distinctive vocalist, but Mickey's voice does have a nice range.

I prefer Marty myself. My favorite albums are Surrealistic Pillow/Bless It's Little Pointed Head and Dragon Fly/Red Octopus. there are many songs on other albums that I really like such as: Saint Charles which is as good as anything on the above albums but the above albums are the best from beginning to end for me.

They're nice singers, but I think the people that actually listen to their music recognize them, but besides that yeah they are.

I love find your way back. Thats my favorite song from Jefferson Starship. The thing is, IMO,during the 60s I felt that Jefferson Airplane was more of an expermintal type group, placed right in the middle of the sex, drugs, rock and roll movement. When they started replacing band members and Mickey Thomas joined, they went commercial. Then in the mid 80s they went completely commercial. Gone were the days of White Rabbit. It all became mainstream rock and roll created more for the charts than for themselves =(
