R&P, does anyone else get annoyed with all the off-topic questions asked here?
2008-09-28 09:48:02 UTC
~irony~
Examples: "R&P, what is your favorite movie?", "R&P, do you have any siblings?" etc...
Or is it just me? Seems like there're more off-topic questions than music related questions.

Yes, often. It's nice to "get to know a little bit" of each other, but seriously - chances are, I'm not going meet most of you guys. I don't care about what your favorite movie is, your shoe size, your favorite color, or whether you floss before or after.
And obviously there are some very blind people here, if you didn't notice the "~irony~" he put at the VERY BEGINNING OF THE POST.
And how the HELL is "What are you currently listening to?" original????

Meh, not really. Sometimes it's annoying for me when people think this way, "I'm going to ask this stupid off topic question that has nothing to do with music so I can get sextillion stars!" It's quite obvious when people ask off topic questions constantly. I don't mind them from time to time though. I also hate when people get too attached to this section and ask questions that belong elsewhere like,"My cat is sick? What should I do?" But, meh, what can one do?
MQ: I was just listening to a remix of "Cloud Connected" and "Nerve" by In Flames and Soilwork combined to "Nerve Connected" on Youtube.

I didn't mind them at first, but now they're getting pretty repetitive. It's because people can't think of anymore music-related question.
MQ: I'm not listening to anything right now. I'm working on a college paper (and answer your question at the same time, haha).

I think it's okay. i mean we can't talk about music ALL the time. i hate to say it but that might get a little boring. all the 'off topic' questions are why we know eachother so well at R&P, as opposed to the other sections.
plus the MQ's kindof make the questions less off-topic.

I'm fine with those questions...in moderation. And yes, I know I'm a hypocrite be even answering this question instead of something on topic, but oh well. Few questions like those...I'm fine. 10 on every single page? Not good. Yeah, I like getting to know the R&Pers better. It enhances the sense of community, I guess. But it's easy to ask a good music related question and learn about people...right?
I guess I'll go ask a question right now and find out.

Well sometimes it's nice to see some fun questions asked around here, not relating to music.

Well,a little community has formed here and it's only natural that you'll have some questions like that. It's perfectly cool with me actually,as long as the main topic remains music...Plus,this is such a question in a way!:P

Yes, I think it's getting a bit annoying.
I also think it's why some R&P regulars have stop coming because of trolls and users asking questions that doesn't have anything to do with rock music.

Honestly, yes. This is Rock and Pop, idn't it? It was alright in moderation, but, now, it's the, like, only thing people ask [sometimes the question is just to get some stars]. It's getting tiring, and pointless.
2008-09-28 10:14:43 UTC
Yes I get pissed off a little, that's why its called Rock & pop, right? Not asking about movies, tv shows, etc.
But I guess once in a while someone can ask that. Agree, there seems to be more off-topic (?) then music-related (?)s.
edit: now I change my mind, Its good to know one another and compare our similarities and differences.

properly its no longer a question yet you could desire to: a million) run around the room, tag somebody and say "you're it!" 2) substitute seats each time the instructor turns his/her back. 3) while the instructor calls roll, after each call scream "it quite is MEEEEE!!! Oh, no, sorry." 4) get absolutely everyone interior the class to start humming softly, and progressively hum louder. (that way you all win) :D

you know it really doesn't matter to me one way or the other but the great thing about it is . if it makes me upset or im not bothered about it i dont have to answer it, but some are cool , its like been said already you might get to know someone a little better so you can pick what you want to do..see that's one of the little things that should not make you upset or outraged or anything it doesn't matter that much...

Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. If it's something that is original or brings about some interesting discussion. Isn't everything related to music anyway? ;o)

Having them asked once in a while doesn't bother me, but when all there is to answer is off topic questions, then it gets a bit annoying.
I'll answer them, but that's usually because there's no music questions to answer,

It depends. Some off-topic questions are cool and interesting. But then there are some that are just really dumb. I don't want to name any but I have some in mind. It goes along with the family aspect of this section

i like em, because i believe that this section where its more of a family than just a "hey, can you help me solve my music related question?" i feel like im genuine friends with some people on here that i could hang out with here, and questions like "whats your favorite movie" or "do you have any siblings" gives me a glimpse into their "non Y!A" lives.

Then you ask a completely original question like what song are you currently listening to..
I like them for two reasons..
One- A far cry better then the do you like/love/hate this band or what top/best/great/never heard bands/songs are there out there..
Two- We get to know each other better , then just a bunch of avatars and nicknames..

Ok, so in order to voice your hatred of non music-related questions, you ask a non music-related question that's just as bad as all the others. I'm going to assume you didnt think this through before doing it.
