Should I allow my 12 year old daughter to go to Warped Tour?
My 12 year old daughter has been constantly begging me to take her or allow her to go with her older cousin, but I have some concerns about Warped Tour and her safety.

Answers from both parents and children would be appreciated.

1) First of all, what exactly is Warped Tour, and what does your average experience there look like?

2) What are the chances that she would be dragged into a mosh pit and hurt in it? How brutal are these mosh pits? She said that she is planning on seeing Of Mice and Men, Miss May I, Memphis May Fire, and other metal-core bands.

3) What does it look like as far as drugs and alcohol?

4) We would have to drive from Vancouver to Redmond. She gets car sick and is very prone to sun-stroke. Would it be worth it for her?

5) What exactly is this whole "Reverse Daycare" tent?

6) How many other children her age would there be, and who accompanies them?

7) Is there really lots of free water? How expensive is food? Can you bring food into the venue?

8) Is there anything else you could think of that might influence my decision?

I'll try to answer this as best as I can!

1)Warped tour is a music festival (obviously, LOL). It's really crowded there and easy to get separated too. It can be extremely exhausting since it's SO HOT.

2)I would stay away from mosh pits! Especially since it's her first time there and because she is so young! Mosh pits can get really wild and dangerous- so I would advise her to stay away since she CAN get really hurt. People in mosh pits try to be careful, but accidents happen sometimes. She's going to have to be really patient also, since she's only going to be seeing a few bands she's going to have to do a lot of waiting around.

3)There is probably going to be some people smoking weed and doing some other types of drugs, but you never really see it. (At least I didn't).

4) Honestly, I thought warped tour was a blast! I didn't like a lot of the bands there and it was freaking hot. But I had so much fun with all my friends. You have to decide whether or not it's safe for her to go because the heat got really bad.

5)Reverse day-care is for adults only. It's a huge tent with air conditioning and movies to watch. They also provide you with free water. In order to get in you have to buy a ticket to the venue.

6) I'm not sure if there are a lot of 12 year olds at warped tour. There's a ton of older kids there, it's not really a good environment for a 12 year old. I've seen parents accompany younger children, but not a lot.

7)I've only heard of free water in the reverse day-care tents! Food and water can be really pricey!

8) I think that being 12 years old at warped tour is kind of young, but that's just me. I think that she needs an adult chaperon because there are a lot of things at risk for her there.

1) First of all, what exactly is Warped Tour, and what does your average experience there look like?

It is a festival of very lousy bands. An experience there usually means loud noise, sunburn, thirst, lines for the portapotties, overpriced merchandise, and bad food.

2) What are the chances that she would be dragged into a mosh pit and hurt in it? How brutal are these mosh pits? She said that she is planning on seeing Of Mice and Men, Miss May I, Memphis May Fire, and other metal-core bands.

It can happen if she is standing too close. Most people in a mosh pit are fairly careful about doing any serious damage, but you could easily wind up with a black eye, a missing tooth, or (often) lost shoes... But she can avoid it if she wants to.

3) What does it look like as far as drugs and alcohol?

Both will be smuggled in, no doubt. She probably won't get her hands on any unless she buys it, but it might be offered. A majority are not on drugs and alcohol, but a sizable minority are.

4) We would have to drive from Vancouver to Redmond. She gets car sick and is very prone to sun-stroke. Would it be worth it for her?

She might enjoy it, but the sun could be a problem. Sunscreen and a hat would help. Bring a bucket to puke in for car sickness, or get some dramamine.

5) What exactly is this whole "Reverse Daycare" tent?

Place for parents to seek refuge who want no part of the racket. You will need to buy a concert ticket to use it.

6) How many other children her age would there be, and who accompanies them?

12 is on the younger side. They might be accompanied by parents, friends, or older siblings. Most will be mid-to-late teens and 20's.

7) Is there really lots of free water? How expensive is food? Can you bring food into the venue?

They've been giving out free water after the death of a concertgoer 2 years ago from dehydration. One slice of cheese pizza + small fries + drink will cost $8.50 (they used to charge $4 for a bottle of water). The Warped website calls this a "special food deal", so you can expect very lousy, very overpriced food. Outside food is permitted if it is still sealed.

8) Is there anything else you could think of that might influence my decision?

You need to search your soul. It's not something I would be okay with, but I'm a fuddy-duddy.

I checked out the 'warped tour' link (posting it for you below, lotsa info :)... judging by the sounds of it if i had a 12yr old wanting to go - i'd feel okay enough about warped to take her

1) I've got alot of experience with concerts, not warped tour though... but a rose is a rose and a concert is a concert, the only thing that changes for the most part are the names and venues. Warped Tour, World Tour, Whatever,,, same same. Don't let the name 'warped' give you false impressions, it's just a concert.

2) No way should a 12yr old be in a mosh pit, period. No way should they be on the floor, period. They're too little and they'll get lost in the crowd in a heartbeat - good luck finding them. The concert should have reserved seating also, she'll be perfectly fine if she remains in her seat with the older person. That said you won't get sucked into the mosh if you're not near it, and it's not that big of a deal anyway... non issue.

3) Alcohol not so much, security normally does a pat-down before they'll let you in... they don't want bottles being thrown inside the event. Most alcohol doesn't make it in unless it's in a flask, and modt who do that bring personal amounts and don't share [other than with their friends]. As far as drugs go, I have yet to be to a concert where there wasn't open pot smoking and joints being passed around randomly. Maybe the US is different, I live in Vancouver BC... but my deal is the esposure to pot at least will be there.

4) An fyi, you say 'vancouver to redmond'... if its vancouver bc you're travelling from, you'll be interested to know all a 12yr old needs to cross the border is a birth certificate and letter from parents - no passport needed.

5) "the Reverse Daycare Tent is an air-conditioned chill zone for parents who escort ..." I left the link for more info below :)

6) I see precious few 12 yr olds at concerns, my roommate let her daughter go see LMFAO - her first concert and she's 15. That said I see nothing wrong with 12yr olds going to concerts, i'm not overly uptight, kids can be highly intelligent and wise [depending on person]... they'll be tons of teens i'm sure.

7) There is usually water, yes... food at events are always super expensive, she'll probably want a t-shirt too lol... you can bring stuff in yes but make sure it's in baggies, no bottled or tin beverages allowed normally.

8) This answers it better than i can...

Warped can get pretty crazy and there are a LOT of older kids there. I would at least make sure to check in on her and her friends often if you decide to let her go. I don't think Warped is a good environment for someone of the age of 12.

I'm 13 and i'm trying to beg my parents to let me go on the Warped. I have never gotten to go to them, but I really want to. Let me just go out of a limb here and say your daughter has exceptional music taste:)

1) Warped Tour is like a tour where tons of different bands come together and play for an all day show sponsored by VANS and other places.

2) It all depends on where she is. Usually, moshers try not to bring younger people into the mosh pits.

3) There's lots of security so honestly, I highly doubt that they would allow that.

4) A lot of my friends who have gone to the Warped Tour say it's a blast and if your daughter really wants to go, it's worth it.

5) I'm not sure. Sorry!

6) I know a lot of kids between the ages of 12-18 who go to the Warped Tour. Usually brought by a cousin or family member (not usually their parents)

7) I don't think so. I say it's fair priced. I'm not sure.

8) Well just keep in mind that you need to keep your daughter with someone you trust and that you have to have a lot of energy to be there all day at the Warped Tour.

**Hope this helped!**

Well I have been going to gigs since I was 7. As long as she goes with someone responsible she will be fine - mosh pits aren't bad but if she has sense she won't get in the middle of it. I would love to go Warped I live in England. Let her go!

Well i'm 15 and i'm going it's my first concert at all and i do hear its awesome my friend said you can stand on the side so you won't get dragged into a mosh pit but she better not go in one they don't care they hit her HARD. Sounds like your kid has a lot of medical issues and i'm not sure if this is really the best thing or her. You never know what can happen in those things. Not saying that something bad would happen and yea i pretty sure their will be drugs there sorry. she seems real young and her cousin would probably get caught up in the concert and could loose track of her.

As long as she goes with an adult she should be good.
