Question:
Am I the only person on here that thinks Alice In Chains is a way better band than Nirvana was?

I totally agree, and for all the reasons you mentioned. I am also a big fan of Dave Grohl, however. I also prefer Soundgarden over Nirvana.

Jerry and Kurt are very wonderful song writers but Jerry takes the cake. Layne and Kurt were very good singers but Layne takes the (best voice in music IMO). Yes Kinney is better than Grohl but I like Grohl's style more and that is just my opinion.

Overall - AiC

Alice in Chains is definately a more talented band musically. Nirvana however had more sophisticated lyrics and themes. I personally prefer Alice, as they have a much more diverse catalogue, with elements of heavy metal, grunge, and acoustic ballads. If you listen to two songs from Tripod, like Heaven Beside You and Frogs, you can tell they don't sound anything the same, but it works. Nirvana though seemed to recycle their riffs. Listen to Lithium, Sappy, and Verse Chorus Verse. They're basically the same song. Plus, Alice in Chains have been strong since the beginning. Their first record could be regarded as their best. But Nirvana's first, Bleach, is full of forgettable songs like Scoff, Swap Meet, Sifting, and Paper Cuts. Don't get me wrong, Nirvana's a great band, but I prefer Alice.

Without a doubt Alice in Chains are one of my top three bands of all time! I don't, and I never did really care much for nirvana, what irks me more is that people I come across who normally arent into Hard Rock, you know the kinds that listen to souljah boy, lil wayne, lady gaga, always say they hate rock music but only like Nirvana. **** them!

Most people will tell you Nirvana is a better band just because of the impact that Smells Like Teen Spirit had on American pop culture and the fact that Kurt Cobain commit suicide in '94. But honestly, they're about the same on the grungefactor.

I agree, Alice in Chains has a darker, harder, and edgier sound than Nirvana that I prefer. I love "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but as a whole Nirvana didn't make as many songs I get excited about. They aren't exactly in the same category though. Alice in Chains is more grunge metal, and Nirvana was more grunge pop.

AiC and Soundgarden were the best things out of Seattle.. even better than Starbucks...... ( though Starbucks has taken more of my money....)

I am not anti Nirvana, and agree with rnstar about Grohl.. Never cared for the Foo Fighters.. but put the man on some skins and he has mad skillz.

Dude, AIC is my favorite rock band of all time. Dirt is in my top 10. And every album they released has been awesome...even the new one after Layne's death is great.

To me though, AIC was really about Layne's voice and Jerry's songwriting...the tone of many of the songs were awesome...Just listen to the album opener to their s/t album Grind...heavy, but not something to mosh to...something to get wasted to!

I prefer Nirvana. Their music just reaches me on a more personal level.

I do love Alice in Chains though, and I think they are the more skilled band.

I'll go even further and say the majority of Nirvana "fans" that say they are the best band ever are try-hard teens with that "stoner" look who only know Smells like Teen Spirit and Come as You Are.

I think Nirvana is better on pretty every level compared to AiC. I still like AiC though.

I'd agree with that. Dave Grohl is still a bada** drummer though. Like the second coming of Bonham.

I don't think it's that necessary, considering they don't sound ANYTHING ALIKE
