Okay, I had an idea, everyone seems to be doing a song of the day. I being me thought, "hmm... I want to do something similar, but different."

So I've come up with a "Living music legend" one. Each day I will find someone totally awesome and still living, say a bit about their awesomeness, post a song or two and let you comment.

Today, I go with a man who really should be "not living."

Shaun Ryder, having consumed pretty much every narcotic under the sun, should be well and truely DEAD. He once stopped million pound record negotiations cause he "needed some KFC and some heroin"

And to quote the late Factory Records boss Tony Wilson: "everyone knows Shaun has taken more drugs than almost anyone else, and this is a drug town [Manchester] and people respect that."

His music that he has made as the singer/frontman of Madchester legends the Happy Mondays, whilst maybe doesn't earn the same level of "ZOMG AWESOME!!!" as The Stone Roses, is most definately some of the best drug induced rock and roll this side of Woodstock.

MQ2: Favourite "drug fiend" musician?

yes i like Shaun Ryder... not a huge fan of all that scene though i do like it... I'm from Manchester and grew up there as a teen in the 90's so that whole 'madchester' thing was very much in our faces... even though i was too young to actually be going out when all this happened, although i did go to the Hacienda a couple of times before they closed it (almost got my head kicked in for wearing a Sepultura shirt once lol!)

The shenanigans of Shaun and especially Bez (!) have been well documented and always crack me up...they're hilarious and Tony Wilson presented the local news for as long as i remember and we often saw him round town!

Love everything about Tony Wilson and Factory Records. There are a couple of funny stories about the Ryder brothers, including when Factory sent them to a Caribbean island to record their new record, figuring there was no heroin to be had. Unfortunately, while there was no heroin, there was plenty of crack cocaine, and the resulting album is as drug-filled as any.

The other one involves a nice foggy London day, a pigeon-filled rooftop, and some poisoned bread. Let's just say pigeons fell in London that day.

MQ: Joy Division, followed closely by New Order

MQ2: Keith Richards

I am inspired that he's nonetheless alive! And with enamel? This is a step ahead for him. I have continuously been an admirer of Shaun, he falls into the class of cr@p singer, excellent vocalist. He is coming throughout very good within the jungle! I am comfortable he has found out to wind his neck in a little.
