Hello R&P,

This week I have quite a handful of new discoveries. I'm going to put down an old album by a Scottish band that I only just discovered. I'd definitely recommend this one.

The Blue Nile - 'Hats'

Thanks in advance.

BQ: So far, would you say Discovery Mondays has encouraged you to regularly find more new music than you did before, or were weekly discoveries always a habit? Be honest.

This past week, I discovered "Chairs Missing" by Wire, and it was my best first-time-listen of an album in a while. It was full of great post-punk and catered to my tastes perfectly. The only Wire album I had listened to before was "Pink Flag" which was really great in its own right, but "Chairs Missing" was phenomenal.

BQ: Not particularly. I've kept typically listening to 1 or 2 albums a day, and going by whatever is on my list and which album lengths would fit the time I have. I mostly listen to 2, or more than 2, when I am busy with schoolwork and have opportunities to listen to music while working.

Just some new albums from bands I've known for quite a while.

The latest from Raymond Watts's PIG - The Gospel

Pain - Coming Home (Peter TÃĪgtgren of Hypocrisy)

BQ, Naw, finding new music is an addiction I've had since the early 80's (yeah I'm old) and even after all these years I still need my fix. The internet and the knowledge of it has only compounded that addiction. Neat huh?

For this week, I'm sharing Scott 3 by Scott Walker. It's this dramatic, lush and ornate baroque pop album from 1969, and it features the crooning vocals of Scott Walker. A lot of Scott 3 has fantastic arrangements, and the orchestration on it is truly exceptional. I can't find a link to the full album on YouTube, but I'll post a link to one song from Scott 3. Here's the link:

BQ: Weekly discoveries were always a habit for me, as I love music and I'm willing to try new things. However, Discovery Mondays do encourage me to find new music. Your questions show me that it's always worth it to go out of your comfort zone, and to try new genres and artists that you've never heard before. Discovery Mondays make music way more exciting, for me.

Russian Circles - Guidance brand new, seems like a step back, but that's okay, it's more like Geneva than Memorial

Magic Pie - The Suffering Joy bought it on a whim, fantastic musicianship, vocalist was just ok

Jakob - Sines whoa, what a powerhouse, instrumental band from New Zealand, the song "Blind Them With Science" blew me away!!

Nothing "new" here, but I would share this tease re a distinctly non-R&P sound. Stirred me from sleep on the couch, this program handing me so much sweetness in the middle of the night, a PBS series. Sorry I don't have a full vid for you from the Shaker Village performance:

I assume many know me here as a rock and blues fan, but I loved this stuff.

Aloha Sarge! Ignore negative comment by resident pisser, moaner, idiot jerk moezlanski. If you're getting him to take the time to make a negative comment you must be doing something right.

BQ: I'd be finding new music regardless, but this is a fun vehicle to share discoveries, and most of all, to check out the discoveries that the other great answerers post.

BQ: I always end up finding new bands and songs from YouTube. Once I click on a video of a song I click on others in the suggestions on the side of the screen. From this I discover songs and bands I've never heard before, but are similar to my taste.

Hey Ducky! I should have something new to add by Thursday, but yes, your questions definitely encourage me to explore more. I have a tendency to get redundant in what I'm listening to, just ask Hurricain how often I post tunes from The Replacements.

BQ: Somewhat. I've discovered a lot bands on here thanks to the many users on here like Killer Peaches, Dr. Sarcastic, Roxel, from back in the day. :P Now I usually go to Youtube, there are some really good music reviewers on the like Cover Kill Nation, Myke C Town, and ARTV, that I have discovered many awesome bands, and artists on there.

New albums from Kenny & Amanda Smith and ClayBank have been released. They are awesome! I'm still loving the new one by the Trinity River Band (Things we do for dreams), as well as the one by Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle (Aim High)!

BQ: Not really.. Since bluegrass is pretty much the only genre I listen to, and I never see any new bluegrass albums mentioned here. I get most of my new music knowledge from listening to certain weekly bluegrass shows online.
