Are there any good drum solos in the last 10, 15, 20years or is the drum solo dead?

Drum solos have become unnecessary in a sad sort of way because all of the fastest drummers are absolutely flying (blast beats, gravity blasts, double bass) in every song, so drummers are already showing off in extreme metal. Back in the day, the drums often took a backseat to the noodling of the guitar solos, but now they are often more prominent than all the other instruments in the mix. It is sad though, I enjoy watching videos of Moby Dick or an old Buddy Rich solo.

I saw Necrophagist a year or so ago in Seattle and Marco Minnemann played almost an 8 min drum solo. And last summer I saw Obituary and Donald Tardy did a good 5 min drum solo. Maybe it's just dead in other genres but metal keeps it alive.

who said drum solos are dead??? In 2006 I made a A Solo CD of 10 drum solos from 2000 to 2005 and I called it "War Drums". one of those drum solos is on my Mysapce site. Its' called "Drummers vanguard"
I'm also making my 2nd DVD too and I also got footage of me doing a 9 minute drum solo too in it.

I know that, at live performances, Cinderella's drummer, Fred Coury, usually takes a drum solo and it's always outstanding!
I believe Scorpions' drummer, whoever he is now, also usually has a drum solo live too.

It's not dead if you look at Clutch's latest live DVD "Full Fathom Five". It's not all virtuoso showing off fills and such - just damn solid groovy playing that makes you want to dance. Drums are good for that when done right...
