What are your top 5 rock bands? And why?
Heres mine

Guns N' Roses- Slash, alot of people know him more than the lead singer! Had 2 successfull other bands. Axl, has a totally new band, and they still have massive audiences, even with delay of Chinese Democracy.

Black Sabbath- Brought heavy metal into mainstream, made rock n' roll much, much louder!!!

Nirvana- Elvis Presley is no longer the dead man making the most money, Kurt Kobain is!!!!

Disturbed- David Dramen's vocal capabilities are simply amazing!!

Linkin Park- Despite the fact their half rap sometimes, they also have massive audiences, record sales, and people seem to mix with their music very well!!!

1) The Beatles - greatest diversity and portfolio of songs in the modern era. Some might not consider them rock which is cool, but they're my all-time favorite band.

2) Led Zeppelin - tops of the hard rock/blues based bands for me. Great lead singer and the Bonham driving beat is unique.

3) Pink Floyd - best band to listen to while relaxing or just hanging out. Incredibly layered and beautiful harmonies and melodies. Also, lyrics with an edge.

4) The Rolling Stones - the best rock 'n roll band in my opinion. Another dynamic singer with a great stage presence and some of the best songwriting ever.

5) U2 - egos aside, the best band over the last 25 years. Have not always had consistency, but their first 10 years brought some great records with 3 perfect ones, in my opinion: War, The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree.

honorable mention: The Who, The Doors, Cream, Rush, Yes, Black Sabbath, CSN&Y, The Beach Boys, Metallica, Talking Heads, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Deep Purple, The Cure, Slayer, REM

The Beatles - The biggest band of the 60's, everyone is influenced by them.

Led Zeppelin - The biggest band of the 70's, made music heavier by making the guitar just as important as the vocals and the drums louder.

The Rolling Stones - If you looked up rock and roll in the dictionary, they would be a definition.

The Who - Probably the greatest live band of all time.

Pink Floyd - Pioneered many studio effects, and Dark Side Of The Moon is one of the best selling albums of all time.

1. AC/DC--their blues based rock just, well, rocks!!!

2. Rolling Stones--classic songs for about 40 years...

3. Led Zeppelin--Amazing sound...everyone in the band is fantastic at what they do...

4. L. A. Guns and Kix--Glam Hard Rockers from the 80's never had a humungus hit song, but kept plugging away and held their own and gained respect.

5. Metallica--Kill 'em All through the Black Album were untouchable in the realm of metal.

Black Sabbath- like you said, they brough heavy metal to the mainstream

Iron Maiden-Bruce Dickenson has an amazing voice and he's a great lyricist.

Judas Priest-Rob Halford's voice is THE voice for heavy metal, no doubt and KK Downing and Glenn Tipton are absolutely amazing guitarists

Metallica-James Hetfield is one amazing singer, songwriter and guitarist, and when you combine this with Kirk Hammet's guitar playing, Lars Ulrich's drumming and Robert Trujillo's bass playing...two words, HEAVY METAL. Of course Robert can't match the brilliance of Cliff Burton, and it's sad that he died so young.

Led Zeppelin-Robert Plant has a great voice, and a mind blowing ability to write songs, Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarists, in my opinion he's second only to Jimi Hendrix, John Paul Jones is everything a bassists should be, and John Bonham is with out a doubt the greatest drummer that has ever lived, as with so many other great musicians, John Bonham died way too young.

*sophie nicole, I think Green Day is amazing, but Working Class Hero is NOT their song, it's John Lennon's. Green Day did an amazing job covering it.

In no particular order:

Aerosmith (my favorite) - You really cant do better than Steven Tyler's stage presence. AND they have been making hit after hit since the 1970s

Guns n Roses - I agree with you on your reasons plus the timeliness of their songs is very powerful in a rock band (smilar to Aerosmith)

Def Leppard - I know they were a hair band but they I think were the quintessential 80s hair band. Very powerful songs plus the drummer only had 1 arm!

CCR - John Fogerty, man such great songs. He had a voice all his own!

Journey - Not sure if this would be considered "rock" but they were very powerful in the 80s in softer rock

Van Halen - Eddie's guitar is unmatched.

Def Leppard - Had/Have an edge thatothers cannot duplicate. Joe Elliots Vovcals are tremendous.

AC/DC - The power cords from Angus just sound great. Catchy chours too.

Sammy Hagar fronting any band. He is just the best. great singer and always puts on a great show. More energy at near 60 than I have at 40. My personal favorite.

The Baby's - Help me get laid when I was 16. Gotta give thanks for that.

The Beatles and The Rolling Stones have to go to the top of almost any "Best Of" list. On mine, I would follow that up with The Who, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac. On a Top Ten List, I would keep going with Genesis, Pretenders, Alice Cooper, Blondie and DEVO.

Led Zeppelin - Jimmy could make you squirm with his guitar licks and Plant could make you cream with his soulfull voice

Heart - The girls showed that we can rock just as hard as the guys.

Queen - What can I say Freddy Mercury was the man

Pink Floyd - Ultimate music experience

Stevie Nicks - The Queen of all rock and roll. She has a voice you could never forget.

Led Zeppelin- Robert Plant's voice is amazing Jimmy Page's talent of playing guitar and writing lyrics is wonderful John Paul Jones plays base guitar beautifully and John Bonehame is a great drummer.

The Doors- Jim Morrison's voice and lyrics are amazing.

Jimi Hendrix- He is the best guitarist ever and has great lyrics and a good voice.

Pink Floyd- They created a new kind of music and were very talented at everything they did.

The Killers - Mr. Brightside has to be one of the best songs in the past 10 years. Their newer album is also amazing.

Jimmy Eat World - Putting out great music for over 10 years. Some think they play alot of bubble-gum, teeny music, but don't listen so much to what is on the radio and really listen to their albums. Their song '23' is fantastic. The 'Clarity' album is incredible.

Smashing Pumpkins - One of the most influential bands of the 90s. I think their comeback is going to be a memorable one.

U2 - Hit after hit, for many years. Unparalleled worldwide success. Enough said.

Weezer - Not as effective in recent years, but definitely influential whether you like their newer stuff or not.

There could be alot better bands on my list, but i'm a big 90's alternative rock fan. I personally don't think Nirvana is as big as they are made up to be today, but that is not to say that I don't respect Kurt's musical talents. Metallica is also a big name for this topic.
:)

Metallica- Even people who don't like metal like metallica!

Fleetwood Mac- The softer rock can really take your mind off your problems for a while.

Journey- No one doesn't like don't stop believin'

Franz Ferdinand- It's just so different than everything else.

Chicago- They incorporate jazz into rock and i've never heard anyone do that before!
