She was the lead singer of Scottish band Stone the Crows.

The band was founded by Les Harvey {brother of Alex Harvey}.

She has been described as 'the Scottish / British Janis Joplin', because of her vocal style.

She is probably best known here in Britain for singing 'No Mean City', the theme song to our longest-running TV detective series "Taggart" {she also appeared in an episode "Evil Eye", playing a gypsy}.

HeresyIsLovely :

Actually, Maggie Bell has never worked with Mike Oldfield.

You're thinking of the other Scots singer Maggie Reilly, who sang a majority of his songs from 1980+, most notably 'Moonlight Shadow' and 'Family Man'.

As far as I'm aware, she hasn't worked with Pink Floyd either, and the singer with Roger waters was Madeline Bell...

Stone The Crows, till Les Harvey, her lover at the time was electrocuted on stage via an unearthed guitar.I believe that took the wind out of their sails..and split up. (Les was Alex's brother.)

All I remember about her was that she had a huge hit with B.A. Robertson in the 70's and sang the theme tune to Taggart.
