If we're talking about literally killing the drum kit, it'd have to be Keith Moon. The most technical rock drummer is probably Neil Peart. The most technical drummer overall is either a jazz one or someone who worked with Zappa. My favorite is Bonham.

No. many times, you need to have the skill to honestly *keep time* in order to considered a sturdy drummer. The Who even had to launch one track w/o a drum song because Moon couldn't play in 6/8 time signature. extremely, extremely overvalued as a drummer imho. BQ: Carl Palmer Terry Bozzio comfortable Powell Bunny Wailer Ginger Baker Mitch Mitchell Carmine Appice bill Bruford Steve Gadd Jim Keltner Aynsley Dunbar Barriemore Barlow Neil Peart Alan White Will Calhoun Richie Hayward Bobby Colomby Levon Helm Carlton Barrett Jim Capaldi Mike Shrieve Stewart Copeland Dennis Chambers Ian Paice Graeme part chum Miles Denny Carmassi Alex Van Halen ....and definite, Bonzo. i'm effective there is more suitable if i theory about it further. and that is not any longer even taking account of drummers from different genres that dabbled in Rock, like Lenny White and Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey... both one in each and every of whom have performed some Rock that makes Moon seem as if a severe college drummer. BQ2: Sorry, I ran out of time itemizing all those drummers, you need to seem up their bands on wiki and YT. imagine of each and every of the track you'll stumble on :-)

Lars is horrible. You can't even hear his drumming on half the songs.

And whoever said the guy from Slipknot, you gotta get out a little more.

Seriously,

Bonham

Peart

Moon

Vinny and Carmine Appice (You might've never heard em, you should)

Those are just a few. But Lars ain't that good, seriously. Double bass ain't nothing.

Neil is a given - they don't get much more amazing than that.

This is purely subjective, but I prefer classically-trained drummers in rock music. The Police's Stewart Copeland and Smashing Pumpkins' Jimmy Chamberlain are two of my favorites.

Edit: Dave - good call...

John Henry (Bonzo) Bonham was THE best till his untimely death.

Now that the great one is gone, Neil Peart is NOW the best.

The fastest drummer I have ever heard before is death metal drummer, George Kollias. He plays for the Ithyphallic metal band, NILE. He can really tear the **** up on a drum set.

Lars is really really good.

Neal Peart is really good, too.

Gene Hoglan- formerly of the thrash band DARK ANGEL and death metal band DEATH is an amazing drummer, too.

I love Neil Peart - he's ridiculously talented!!

I'm going to humbly offer this one, given another question you asked earlier and your feelings on the band....

Carter Beauford. He's actually an EXTREMELY talented drummer!
