Well Queen certainly can't be called good anymore with Paul Rodgers. Paul Rodgers/Bad Company=Cool. Queen=Cool. Paul Rodgers + Queen= NO. Quite a few bands have succesfully recovered though, like Metallica (I'm not a Newsted fan, but they didn't "turn bad", at least not immediately. In fact, one of my favorite songs of theirs, "No Leaf Clover", was written in 1999, during the height of their "bad period"), AC/DC, etc. I would, however, have to say that Skynyrd is not all that desirable in any incarnation post-plane crash, which really sucks cuz they did rock pretty hard.

The Who

They should have hung it up after Keith Moon died in 1978. They were an interesting live act after, but that's all. Keith had been Pete Townshend's best friend, and when Keith died, Pete started doing solo albums. It became obvious that Pete Townshend was saving his best material for his solo albums, as the two post-Moon Who albums (Face Dances & Its Hard) with Kenney Jones were just horrid. If Keith had survived, Pete's solo albums Empty Glass, White City, and Psychoderelict would have been kick-asss Who albums... all the way through the 80's. Ironically, after ANOTHER member died (Entwistle) in 2002, it seemed to re-energize The Who and they came out with a couple of good songs (Old Red Wine & Real Good Looking Boy) and a good album (Endless Wire)... or maybe thats because Pete stopped doing solo albums, lol.

After Pete Ham died, Badfinger never was the same. Most songs of theirs after Ham died I don't like that much. Of course, after another member of theirs, Tom Evans, died, Badfinger wasn't worth listening to, since drummer Mike Gibbins wasn't their drummer anymore. Also, now that Gibbins has died, Baddinger is basically Joey Molland touring under the name Badfinger and covering a bunch of songs that Pete Ham wrote.

Molly Hatchet isn't as good since their singer died either. The same goes for Queen as well.

AC/DC, Metallica sort of. They still had some good albums, but once Cliff died, they just wern't the same.

Pantera of course. It's such a sad thought.

I'm not saying that The Rolling Stones turned horrible after Brian Jones died, but their music just wasn't the same without him.

Their better stuff was when he was still with them.

Metallica.

It wasn't an immediate effect, they released one (possibly two, depends if you like the Balck Album, I personally don't), and then after that things got sour, but they are starting to come back to the original sound, not entirely, maybe iwthin two or three more albums, though.

In my opinion:

Ozzy Osbourne [Randy Rhoads]

Alice In Chains [Layne Staley]

Queen [Freddie Mercury]

Metallica [Cliff Burton]

AC/DC [Bon Scott]

some could argue Skynyrd.... but not me sir, not me. Lynyrd Skynyrd revolutionized "southern rock" and as such, did not ever "turn bad".

Off the top of my head, I can only say INXS when Michael Hutchence died.
