Why do most bands sound worse when they come back from a hiatus?

e.g. no offense but Fall Out Boy kind of sucks now tbh imo
sure every band changes their style a bit over time but it's still kind of just eh.

Not always Portishead split in 1998 and reformed 11 years later in 2008, and they sound just as good

I agree with what you said about Fall Out Boy. I've loved all of their albums up until now. "Church" is the only new song by them that I like.

Blondie split in 1982 and reformed in 1997 and shortly after reforming, they released 'Maria' which I think is there best song.

Because a break isnt always the best idea. New ideas dont always work. Times change. Also Fall Out Boy where always garbage.
