Just wondering if taste in music has anything to do with genetics, at all.. haha. I don't know about my siblings yet, they are way too young to even have a taste in music, although my 4 year-old brother does enjoy listening to "Don't Stop Me Now" and "Killer Queen", which makes me proud.

Somewhat. My brother and I both listen to rock, but I prefer the heavier stuff. There is some overlap. For instance, we both listen to Foo Fighters, Alter Bridge and Sevendust -- which is about as soft as I'll go and as heavy as my brother will go.

To a small extent. My sister does like some Queen and other stuff I like, but she tends to go through phases with bands. She will only play one or two songs off an entire disc, where I have to listen to the entire album, even if I don't like the songs. It would get very annoying when she and I would drive places, because official shotgun rules state the driver gets choice in music. Have you ever driven around for an hour listening to the same three french pop songs? I have, and it's not fun. The worst part is that she thinks she's very cool and 'rock' when ever she blasts 'angry' music in her car. What does she blast, you might ask?

30 Seconds To Mars or Fall Out Boy.

Yeah, that's her 'heavy, angry music'

We have VERY different opinions on that.

Not at all. I'm really into classic rock, even though I'm only 13. 1 of my brothers listens to pretty much anything, 1 of them listens to mostly rock, and one of my brothers is a huge fan of rap and hiphop. Musical taste is not genetic. My parents like country, so I can't have gotten my taste of music from them. I guess i like classic rock because I play guitar. People that play guitar, bass, or drums seem like they like classic rock more often because those are the bands that can really play music. My brother has no musical talent so naturally he likes rap and hip-hop So I would say your taste in music is defined by your style.

I have no siblings....poor Me.

I don't think music taste has a whole lot to do with genetics however.

My Father is A.) Horrified and B.) Aghast at the types of Music (I.E. Metal, Prog, Classic Rock) that I listen too

He listens to Classical, Classic Country, and Bluegrass.

He is the closest relative I have to base my answer on, I'm an only child

no longer probably. My sister likes u . s . and option, and that i admire a number of an identical songs she does, yet no longer many. Atleast she's no longer into rap anymore. Her and her husband proportion musical pastimes. My brother and that i admire the countless comparable issues, quite often whilst it comprises classic rock. in view that he's been married however, he's gotten into some rap, and he looks to think of i'm loopy for listening to the steel i admire. he's a goof. i admire him besides. i admire them the two, yet we could continually communicate approximately different issues. Haha. My cousin who's my age, I have not any thought what he's into. he's greater into video games and that anime stuff, which i do no longer comprehend in any respect. My different cousins are the two lots older or lots youthful. besides the undeniable fact that, i've got caught Hunter, my 4 300 and sixty 5 days previous cousin, head banging to three of my stuff. Cutest element in the worldwide. he's so obese. lol

I have 3 daughters and i am proud to say that they have developed similiar tastes of music that i have, i listen to a lot of classic rock and metal from the 80's, i have taken them to rock concerts with me to introduce them to some of the greatest music ever made, some bands or musicians that they have seen include Queen w/ Paul Rodgers singing, Michael Schenker, George Lynch, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath w/ Dio, Queensryche, Van Halen, it' gotten to the point where they are downloading my cd's onto their ipods which i think is pretty cool.

No. Music is not genetic. My whole family likes rap but I'm the only one that likes Metal. It depends what the child is mainly brought up by. If a child is exposed to rap at a young age that child has a higher chance of liking rap music as he/she gets older. But that was not my case. I was exposed to rap when I was at a young age. I must admit I did like it for a little bit. However, my cousins exposed me to Metal and I loved it. So overall for me I love Metal music but hate rap. If its race you were including, I am asian but I hate rap,hip-hop,and r&b music. Lol you might refer to me as an "oreo". I know you may not have intended it to be that way but some people think race plays a part in which music a person will like. Just wanted that to get cleared thats all. I just think it has to do with a personality factor. I like Metal becuase I'm naturally violence, and like violent, fighting, war etc, and am a very intense daring person. Also dark with values that are considered immoral. But my younger brother likes Rap music and hates the music that I listen to, so no my younger brother doesn't have the same music taste as me just to answer your question.

Thank you for asking this question. I often use my sister as an example of the "Antitaste" in music. I'm 41 and have never been ridiculed by any of the "Cool kids" in the Rock section for sharing my ecclectic tastes in music. My sister, who is 45, has been found guilty of assimilating into the suburban-soccer-mom music club. Top 40 all the way. During a recent ride in her Ford Expedition, I happened upon some CDs: Avril Levigne, Bon Jovi's latest, NSYNC, Matchbox 20, etc.

She has teenage daughters, so I ask: "You let your kids listen to this crap?"

She replies: "Nope, their mine."

Sigh. To think this is the same person who introduced me to April Wine when we were kids.

Aw... that's so cute! Does he sing along to Killer Queen too?

In a way we have different tatse to begin with, but began meshing our tatse.

My sister listens to mostly modern indie, alternative and some pop while I listen to classic rock and prog rock but we've kind of combined our taste and now listen to a lot of each other's music. Now I listen to a lot of indie and she likes SOME classic rock and prog (but hates a lot of others with a passion).

But she was the one who really got me into two of my favorite bands (Radiohead and Porcupine Tree) so i have to credit for that even though she stopped liking Porcupine Tree and Radiohead now.

I don't think genetics are relevent, but it'a a lot more with enviroment. My family was never about rebellion and showing how we were different, but I have friends who listen to completely opposite music from their siblings as a part of rebellion of being different from their blood. (if you get what I mean)

EDIT:

Cinnamon: GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Music is not genetic but the music that you listen to will probably be influenced by your family, freinds, and, of course, yourself.

Me & my bro like the same music and if my mom listens to it, she'll say (most of the time) that she likes it. My parrents listen to rock and soft metal (if there is such a thing) and I listen to rap, metal, punk rock and rock. I see a lil connection =p.

My sister is into 80's and early 90's pop. (Ace of Base, Culture Club, Madonna, etc..) so our music taste is quite different. There's a couple bands we both like, but that's few and far between. The songs that she does like from the bands I listen to are usually their singles. For example, she loves "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden and "Lovesong" by The Cure, but not much else by either band.

Sort of. Haha, well my brother's 17 and I'm three years younger than him. I listen to a lot of classic rock, punk (Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, ect) some alternative/indie, and ska. So I have a really wide variety, while my brother only listens to classic rock and metal/hard rock.

Everytime I try to force him to listen to ska we end up in an arugement. Haha, but I dunno. I guess its because I was influenced more through my friends. My dad listens to a TON of classic rock so I picked that up from him and my mom likes alternative/indie. I just slowly started to listen to some real punk and ska, which I love.

But we both agree that screamo/emo sucks.

My nine year old brother claims that his favourite band is McFly, my five [soon six] year old brother said that he wanted a Sugababes album for christmas... -sigh-

So no, our tastes aren't even slightly similar.

But the nine year old /does/ enjoy some Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver as well as some Prince - so perhaps if I wean him off this Mcfly nonsense, I can "save" him while there's still time.

My little brother has different tastes than me nowadays...he likes Robert Earl Keen, Faith Hill, and other folk/country music...when he was little I gave him Smashing Pumpkins for his birthday, NIN another year, Sound Garden the next...One year I made him stand in line for me and buy my Black Sabbath tickets while I was at work...he watched my crazy days and went a bit more tame...he's a succesful financial advisor and lives in a gated community...I had knee surgery a year and a 1/2 ago from a GNR Karaoke night...we're opposites through and through. We're 7 years apart, and now he's the eldest in mind and worldly success...funny how life is!

Diamond...I'm adopted...what's your story?

My younger sister likes bands like My Chemical Romance, fall Out Boy, Cypress Hill, Norma Jean...blah blah blah.

I listen to AC/DC, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Ozzy, Cheap Trick...that kind of stuff. We're very different, but we have a mutual respect, and I have caught her with AC?DC's more notable works on her iPod. There's hope for her yet.

Nope my twin sister is mostly into indie music while i enjoy the heavier music. I like my music loud she likes it mellow. As for my older brother he pretty much listens to everything from Michael Buble to All that remains. My two oldest sisters listen to more mellow music since they are adults now. They all think my music is noisy and loud.

My older brother, who is 22, listens to indie rock, classic rock, and gangstA rap...so not really the same there. We don't even like the same classic rock artists. My younger brother, who is 15, actually takes after me. He likes pop punk, screamo, and is getting into the death metal/hardcore stuff now.

Me and my brother have plenty of the same favorites, more so than not, but he is more into metal stuff, i am more into alt-prog.

Me and the sister agree sometimes, however she's one of those listeners who prefers songs, while i prefer albums, so i cant say its exactly the same.

Yes, my brother has actually turned me on to many great bands. We go to a lot of shows together, music is probably the strongest bond between us.

well my brothers are nine years old so i'm not so sure if they SHOULD be listening to my music. but ya, one of them is like obsessed with aerosmith and queen, one doesn't really like music, and one is always begging me to let him listen to my ipod, so he's starting to like the same stuff as me.

ya, they're triplets in case you were wondering.
