i mean dont get me wrong, im not going to say they suck, but it seems like everyone likes music that frankly, isnt nearly as good as they actually are. more like people like them more based on the fact that people say they are amazing than the fact that they are actually that good. i think of the movie avatar. yeah it was a good movie, but it wasnt nearly as amazing as everyone said it was... lets put it this way, i think their songs are ok, but im not going to give my left nut to go to a concert like some people seem they would.

and yes, ive listened to songs such as stairway to heaven, another brick in the wall, thunderstruck, when the levee breaks, tnt, sweet child o mine, so on and so on so please dont say im listening to the "wrong songs" and furthermore, im not a huge fan of todays music (if im lucky, i'll find 10 good songs that have been made this year) and no, im not a gay-*ss hipster.

and im not trolling, but does anyone else feel that way? i just feel like everyone likes them and if you dont, then its as if its blasphemy to think otherwise.

Dude I totally feel your point. If you are like me, a Gen X, or even gen Y, whatever, chances are you grew up in a time and place where everyone had an older brother or friends who turned you on to this stuff.

We all thought it was great, the thundering drums of John Bonham, the fireworks of Jimmy Page. And the wild Pink FLoyd jams, with the whole Wizard or Oz thing that I thought was on point with that movie when you watch it with Dark Side of the Moon. (link in the bottom for your viewing and listening).

But as time goes on I do think that way too much hype was put into Led Zeppelin in particular. Yeah Pink Floyd is amazing musicians and I enjoyed it the first 789000 times I heard them, but then it began to sound depressing.

As for Zeppelin, I think with time that Robert Plant was a phony actor dude that just recited 17th century celtic folklore poetry then tried to imitate Elvis Presley and the old Blues singers like Sonny Boy Williamson. Jimmy Page got sued by a lot of blues guys because Robert Plant used their words in many of Zep songs.

I respect Robert Plant and get his thing, have seen him twice. The first time the Black Crows opened up for them and they blew him off the stage! The next time it was Page and Plant so it was better, but you are right about the hype on those bands.

But I don't think AC/DC gets the same hype as Pink Flyd and Led Zeppelin. For whatever reason people seem to take them at base level. Party band with three chords and one style. Hard!

Honestly, I think all of those bands are overrated, as well. People always get mad at me for saying that, ha ha. But Floyd still one of my favorite bands, not the stuff they play on the radio though, I'm talking the Rummage and Piper at the Gates of Dawn stuff; basically their really crazy stuff. But as far as the other two bands you listed, yes they both are VERY overrated, especially AC/DC. I feel like every guy I know loves them and I don't see why, yes they're good but they're not that great. Led Zeppelin is also another rock band posers LOVE, don't get me wrong they were innovators of their time, but they're overrated as well. I mean seriously everyone always overlooks The Kinks, Pro col Ha rum, Deep Purple, All man Brothers Band, & Cream. Those are some of my fave bands!

But, you should listen to each band's lesser known stuff, it's always BETTER!

Listen to these songs:

AC DC- Long Way to the Top, Touch Too Much, Jailbreak, & Whole Lotta Rosie.

Pink Floyd- Careful with that Ax, Eugene, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Jug band Blues, Candy and a Currant Bun, the entire Animals album, Goodbye Cruel World, See Emily Play, Learning to Fly, Sisyphus Part 4....etc.

Led Zeppelin- Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song, Custard Pie, Trampled Under Foot, Dazed and Confused, Black Dog, Ramble On, & Fool in the Rain (yes they are all pretty well known, lol).

ACDC = overrated - i agree on that one.

People also listen to the bands not necessarily because they are the 'greatest band ever and write the best music' and so on, sometimes they just like the members, or they can relate to the songs.

And also , how good a band is , is completely perception based. There isn't really a definition of a good song or a good band (unless you wanna go back to learning music in school) so it's pretty much opinion.

but i do also agree that some people just listen to bands because people say they are good and they wanna seem 'cool' because they listen to old music and stuff rather than listening to what they like.

Personally, I agree with Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. I like some of their songs but collectively, I really don't think they're that great. I can't see my self owning their entire collection and liking (almost) every song.

Pink Floyd has a few weak albums I admit but almost all of their albums are strong. The 'big four' albums especially, I don't think there's a song in there that I would dare skip.

I can see why some people would see them as overrated. I really do. Maybe it's not really your thing. I mean someone like you might like the song "Money" but then you hear something like "Great Gig in the Sky" or "Is There Anybody Out There" and ask yourself, 'what is this crap?'

No, you're not the only one. "Sweet Child o' Mine" wasn't sung by any of those bands.

Personally, I think Pink Floyd wrote brilliant music. Unlike any group before them.

Led Zeppelin was an incredibly talented, and influential group. These guys helped changed what people like in music.

AC/DC was talented, but I wouldn't say they're the best group ever.

If you don't like them, that's fine. But I don't think they're overrated. Personally, I hate the term "Overrated." It seems anygroup that get's any attention, people will say is overrated. I don't even know how to decide whether or not something is.

Man, if pink Floyd, led zepplin, acdc are still getting talked about in 2012 they did something right, pink Floyd is amazing, I've been listening to them for almost a decade, actually sit down an listen to the bands' music you're calling 'overrated' don't just listen to the songs you know by the band, go out and but th dark side of the moon by Floyd, led zepplin I haven't listened to enough but what I have I really liked, and acdc just bugs me, but they did step up to the plate and took risks in the music industry.

Yeah I agree, Pink Floyd was Ok, Led Zeppelin was good(but not that good),and AC/DC was all about the Shock value, they didn't have alot of real talent, add KISS,Iron Maiden,Guns n Roses,RHCP,Metallica,The Rolling Stones and Nirvana and you pretty much have the top 10 most overrated bands of all time.

I agree they are okay but I don't ever consider them to be so amazing that it's just crazy. I think there were some other bands that were great but just never got the recognition that they did.
