A friend of mine were having an argument

One of us said that Tuesday was the actual name of the woman who was “gone” in “Tuesday’s Gone.” Tuesday is a strange name, sure, but music and art is full of strange names.

Another said that Tuesday was a reference to an definite, but simultaneously undefinable point in time which one part of his life was bifurcated from the last.

Which do you think it is?

Yes, Tuesday could be a woman's name, like the well known actress, Tueday Weld, as mentioned before. But, some sources believe that lead singer and co-song writer Ronnie Van Zant, wrote it after learning that MCA records wanted to sign the band. It is said, the song is about the simple life, the band knew before signing with a big record label. That life would now be forever gone, if the band became a big, successful hit maker. This theory actually holds up very well, if you consider a few important facts: 1.The song appeared on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first album with MCA records. 2.The album contained some of the most well known songs of Skynyrd's career, including, Gimme Three Steps, Simple Man and the epic, mega hit rock anthem, Free Bird, which was almost guaranteed to make them stars. 3. The song Simple Man, from the same album was a song written after Van Zant's Grandmother and Rossington's Mother died. Simple Man honored the women's advise for the two men, to remain true to their simple, down home roots. 4. This would not be the only time that Van Zant wrote a song about stardom and signing with a record label. The song, Workin For MCA appeared on Skynyrd's second album and it talks about the record company offering an artist a lot of money and promising to make them a star.
