UFO - "Space Metal"...1976 compilation features entire debut album, and "Flying".
UFO - "The Decca Years"...featured much of debut album, and some of "Flying".
Stray - "The Definitive Collection"...featured entire debut album along with a second disc compiling later material.
At the time of purchasing the UFO "Decca Years" and Stray CD compilations (early 90's), neither bands debut albums had been reissued on CD yet, so that's why I bought them.
The Gentry's - "Cinnamon Girl: The Very Best of the Gentrys"...is the entire 1970 "Sun Records" self titled Gentry's release, with a few extras tracks thrown in.
Deep Purple - "Purple Passages"...features much of the material found on their first three studio LP's.
Man - "Twice"...early 70's reissue of their first and second LP's.
Fat Mattress - "The Black Sheep of the Family: The Anthology"...features entire first and second albums, with some bonus stuff also.
Small Faces - "The Darlings of Wapping Wharf Launderette (The Immediate Anthology)"...features everything from the albums; The Small Faces, There Are But Four Small Faces, and Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake.
Grand Funk Railroad - "Mark, Don & Mel 1969-71"...features the bulk of material from the first two or three albums if I recall.
Earth Quake - "Purple: The A&M Recordings"...Compilation featuring entire first two albums; self titled and "Why Don't You Try Me?"
Humble Pie - "Natural Born Bugie - The Immediate Anthology"...features the first two Humble Pie albums in their entirety; "As Safe as Yesterday Is", and "Town and Country".
I know there's several others within my collection, but these come to mind right away. I bought these compilation type albums that feature "entire albums" primarily because I was unable to find the actual album by itself at that time...also for the unreleased bonus material supplied in some cases.
BQ: Rocket to Russia is my fave. Of the one's you've mentioned, I like Mondo Bizzaro. "Cabbies On Crack" is a great tune.
BQ2: I've never really been a "Compilation" or "Best Of/Hits" kinda guy. But I guess I'll go with "Best Of '66" Volumes 1 & 2.
BQ3:
Yes I've been there a few times. The first time was 1973/74 or thereabouts, when it was primarily a Country/Bluegrass acoustic folk venue. I remember a country/rock band played that night called "Milkwood"...I found out several years later that they featured future members of what became "The Cars"...Rick Okasek and Ben Orr.
The second time I was at CBGB's...The Talking Heads second performance if I recall. John Cale joined them on stage that night too.
The third time was in 1977 or 78... Wayne County & The Electric Chairs.
The fourth time was during the late 80's...Agnostic Front performed that night.
