cool, that's interesting!

i got this recently that you may find interesting... http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-Noise-Electronic-Music-Chronology/dp/B00006JM7S ... with sounds dating back to 1921!

i believe the roots of industrial/noise music lie in 'Musiqe Concrete'... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musique_concrete

and as well as John Cage who you mention... Karlheinz Stockhausen... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlheinz_Stockhausen

Pierre Schaeffer... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Schaeffer

these are artists i'm only just starting to try to find out about... especially using the compilation i mentioned above as a guiding/starting point... (that comp is the first in a series of many i believe...)

Without looking at the links - Monte Cazazza.because he founded Industrial Records and popularized the term Industrial as music.

With looking at the links - I'd probably say Theatre of Eternal Music. Cool name, obviously a Theatre of Pain reference.

Looks interesting, I'm going to seek out the cds.

Thanks!

I have heard of Kraftwerk and John Cage.

edit: I don't think wikipedia is always right. I think I remember reading in the RE:search industrial music book it was Monte that founded Industrial Records

As far as the originator of noise music? I'd say whoever started meditation chanting first.

that, or the Dada movement in general.

edit again: you were right, mostly. it was TG, not Monte that started Industrial Records, Monte just came up with the slogan "Industrial Music for Industrial People" which popularized Industrial Music as a genre.

edit once more: Migh, that compilation looks amazing. I need it immediately. yay 1 click shopping

edit again: Radiophonic Workshop is officially badass because they came up with the best theme song in a tv show ever, for possibly the best series ever.
