the biggest miss was the very concept of a rock and roll hall of fame.

Alice Cooper, KISS, and T-Rex definitely belong in there, but then so do most of the bands you've listed. I don't personally have anything against the idea of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I do however feel that the public, i.e. we the fans, should be the ones who determine who gets in and who doesn't, as opposed to a small and frankly clueless clique of people. The only use I can see for that would be to induct obscure but influential artists from rock's early days who might not otherwise get the recognition they deserve. Aside from that, the fact that it's taken this long to *finally* induct the Stooges (after guitarist Ron Asheton's death, sadly), and that they only recently inducted the Sex Pistols - two legendary and hugely influential bands - is an embarrassment. (Especially when one considers that Madonna and Leonard Cohen were inducted. I love the latter's music, by the way, but he's frankly not rock and roll, nor does he claim to be.) I could go on and on about how ridiculous the RRHOF is, but it's probably best that I mercifully wrap up this rant.

All great bands.

Most of these bands are too young to be seriously considered, and you have to seriously question how much they CHANGED rock music, not just whether they were good bands or not.

All the bands who won listed did that.

Moody Blues seems a natural, but they were never the mega stars like some other British bands. Ditto for Chicago.

Rush I'm with you - they've won every Canadian award possible and probably don't care. They always got reemed by the American press anyway.

I third that statement about the Hall of Fame.

But to answer your question...

Depeche Mode and Pubic Enemy can be written of already. They aren't rock. Depeche Mode is synth pop, electronic, with rock characteristics, and Public Enemy is pure hip hop.

KISS and Alice Cooper won't make it because the judges hate this type of music.

I think the top 5 most eligible bands should be...

T. Rex - Glam rock gods

Heart

Peter Frampton

Chicago

and Bad Company.

All those bands are rock (though later Chicago is border-line). Great discographies, and they are choices that are quite obvious for the impact they made and their popularity.

Bands like Bon Jovi, Journey, RHCP, aren't really "respected" during these types of awards. t

Chicago, and Bad Company definitely should have been in. The Moody Blues too.

The Moody Blues made a huge impact back in the late Sixties and early Seventies with a lot of their music {love In Search of the Lost Chord}.

Chicago was a great band and very original too. They were originally Chicago Transit Authority, until the Public Transportation system for the city sued them and said they couldn't use the name. The city of Chicago didn't mind though...

Bad Company... Well, they're Bad Company, an excellent band altogether.

Kiss was really more about the show than the music

Peter Frampton was done in by his appearance in the awful "Sgt. Pepper" movie. That was a career killer for him.

Red Hot Chili Peppers might be considered too current as they're still recording.

You know there are a lot more bands that fit what you listed. But I don't really care, I have my own rock N roll fame all around me in my over 3000 albums, 600 tape's and cd's, so I don't need their hall of shame.

take care

Glad to hear the Hollies finally made it! An outstanding band.

I would say Moody Blues should have made it. They are a great band and deserve the recognition for sure!

heart(1st rock band to be fronted by women)

alice cooper(1st shock rocker, inspired KISS and marilyn manson among others)

ELO(their ground breaking fusion of rock and roll and classical music)

moody blues(days of future passed is one of the great concept albums)

i'm going to throw another band out there for you:

supertramp

i recently listened to retrospectacle:the supertramp anthology and there was some really brilliant stuff on there,i think it was amazing that an album like breakfast in america was able to be as popular as it was in 1979,considering that it was the height of disco!

supertramp really defied the odds because no one was expecting their brand and style of music to be popular due to disco and all that, but it was in fact i think breakfast in america was their only number 1 album anywhere(number 1 for 4 weeks in the US in 1979)!

Why do they have the induction ceremony at one of the swankest NYC hotels? How rock n roll is that?

Alice Cooper, but let's please not forget Deep Purple while we're at it!

(Where exactly do people think the current idea of the "hard rock guitar solo" came from, anyway?)

How do they decide who goes in anyway? Seems really arbitrary!

wow. that's a tough decision. i think that it would be a tie between Bon Jovi, who is absolutely amazing, to Chicago, who have written some of the best love songs I have ever heard.
