alright so basically i've been considering it for a while now, i tried it a while back and apparently i'm not bad at all for someone who's never played before, so my question...

any suggestions for suitable kits/equipment/sticks? i have a fair bit of money to throw around for the cause and would be mainly interested in the heavier stuff ie hard rock/metal sorts of songs

i realise these things take time but yeah any helpful suggestions would be great!

Hello, I've been drumming for 20 years. I'm also a very hard-hitter too. I only sticks I use and endorse are PRO-MARK OAK sticks , size 2B. It take me about a year to snap em and they are rlaible, durable and feel great too. They are cheap too. Only $8 at Guitar Center. I also have Vic Firth Marching sticks....but I don't use those on the drum kit.

Only cymbals I use are PAISTE all the way...

As far as kits go. I used to have a Tama rockstar and Tama Superstar years ago. but, I'm really attracted to the new DDRUM kits now and will buy a Ddrum Dominion Ash one when I get some extra cash. Go to www.ddrum.com and look at all the killer shell colors too. They are alos very reasonably priced too. You get a decent kit for under a $1,000.00.

Also, go to my Myspace page and look in my pics gallery. You will see my old Tama Superkit from 2000. That kit is mostly birch and basswood shells I think. I used that kit on my the first 5 songs of my drum Solo CD "War Drums". Hope this helped you out a little and keep on drumming!!!

The best "starter" kit out there is the Pearl Export series. It is very good value for money and has been the top selling drum kit for years. In my opinion Pearl make the best drums money can buy and go from entry level kits to the very expensive studio, touring and custom kits.

As for sticks it is really trial and error. If you plan on playing rock stuff you will need something heavier and thicker but then again you don't know how heavy of a hitter you will be so ask the guy in teh store if you can try some stuff out and don't be scared to break sticks (once you have bought them obviously!!)

I will say that if you are just staring to play you might want to think about getting an entry level kit to begin with to hone your craft and then upgrade once you are proficient enough to start playing live or recording. Practice, practice, practice....that is the best thing anyone can say to you when beginning to play an instrument. No one ever gets good by just having a dream and ambition....PRACTICE! Get some lessons or some instructional videos. Learning rudiments is boring yes but it will serve you very well later down the line. Good luck....
