Bass guitar and guitar are two completely different instruments entirely. Guitars generally have 6 strings, with the standard tuning (from the top string to the bottom) as E, A, D, G, B, E. You can play lots of complicated riffs and chords on a guitar with many different combinations of sounds and playing styles. The neck is shorter than that of a bass, and there aren't as many frets. The strings are also numbered from bottom to top, with the thinnest being 1 and the thickest being 6. The guitar is also usually the "heart", or main focus, of a song. A standard bass has only 4 strings (although you can find 6- and 8-string basses and beyond for more complicated play), with the standard 4-string tuning (again from top to bottom) as E, A, D, G. The numbering is also reversed, with the top (thickest) string being 1 and the bottom (thinnest) being 4. The pitch of a bass is much lower than that of a guitar, and as a result, large or complicated chords often sound muddled or "off". However, the bass is usually the base of a song, and i's almost impossible to have guitar music without including it. These are only a few of the differences between the two instruments, so if you're serious about learning either, you should definitely consult a book or professional for mre information. Good luck and happy playing!

The foundation of music is rhythm, harmony, and melody. Drums are straight rhythm. Bass combines both rhythm and harmony while guitar is either melody or harmony not both. Bass is generally played with fingers in a walking pattern, slapping, tapping, or picking. Guitar is generally picking, fingers with no real pattern, and tapping. A bass is going to be a longer, bigger, and heavier instrument than a guitar. The first 4 strings on a bass and guitar are the exact same if you have the standard 4 string bass and standard 6 string guitar. Any higher in the number of strings and they change( not a lot though). For basses there are 2 types of fret boards. 1 is a standard the other is a long scales which for each string on the bass there is a 2 octave choice in each. Hope this helps.

I play both, and the main difference in playing them is that typically (in general but not always) when playing the guitar the musician plays chords (multiple notes together, sounding at the same time) and when playing bass the musician plays just one note at a time. Sometimes people do play more than 1 note at a time on a bass, but it is a very small fraction of how bass is usually played.

More specifically, in the majority of music and for the majority of most songs, the bass is playing a note that is the lowest note of whatever chord the guitarist is playing. For example, if the guitarist is plays a 'G' chord, the bassist will play a low 'G' note and when the guitarist plays an Em (E minor) the bassist will play a low E. This is called playing the 'root note', and that is what bassists typically play the most. That is the basics of playing bass guitar, but it can be built on to sometimes play a different note within the chord the other musicians are playing. For example, if the song has a 'C' chord and is about to play an 'F' chord, the bassist may choose to play an 'E' instead of a C because it leads into the 'F' chord and sounds different than playing the root note. In jazz and other more complicated types of music the bassist will play a lot of notes that are not root notes, and there are advanced musical theory-related reasons behind playing those notes, but for most country, pop, church songs, punk rock, etc. the bassist usually plays the root note the majority of the time (though with occasional exceptions).

A Bass Guitar has 4 strings usually, instead of 6 strings like a "normal" guitar. The strings on a bass are also heavier gauge to produce a deeper sound.

The bass guitar[ (also called electric bass,[or simply bass; /ˈbeɪs/) is a stringed instrument played primarily with the fingers or thumb, by plucking, slapping, popping, tapping, thumping, or picking.

The bass guitar is similar in appearance and construction to an electric guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and four, five, six, or eight strings. The four-string bass—by far the most common—is usually tuned the same as the double bass,[which corresponds to pitches one octave lower than the four lower strings of a guitar (E, A, D, and G).[The bass guitar is a transposing instrument, as it is notated in bass clef an octave higher than it sounds (as is the double bass) to avoid excessive ledger lines. Like the electric guitar, the bass guitar is plugged into an amplifier and speaker for live performances.

Since the 1960s, the bass guitar has largely replaced the double bass in popular music as the bass instrument in the rhythm section. While the types of basslines performed by the bassist vary widely from one style of music to another, the bassist fulfills a similar role in most types of music: anchoring the harmonic framework and laying down the beat. The bass guitar is used in many styles of music including rock, metal, pop, punk rock, country, reggae, gospel, blues, and jazz. It is used as a soloing instrument in jazz, fusion, Latin, funk, and in some rock and metal styles.

Bass guitar is a different guitar. It has four strings and it usually plays the bass line. At concerts, the bass is why you feel like you're vibrating when you ree close to the speakers.

A Bass Guitar is for the retarded, drugged up guitar player's who don't know the difference from a guitar and their dick. They are the most useless people that ever lived. Donald Trump should deport these people because they messed up the country that much!!! Bush did 9/11 because he was on dope and he didn't know it was the detonator.
