Rock and Pop: I want an mature, unbiased, and coherent answer. Why does Green Day receive such blind hate?

People seem to sh*t on them for EVERY decision they make.
It's gotten to the point where it's unbelievable and almost comical.
What's next?
"Hey look! One of the guys from Green Day is wearing a Jimi Hendrix shirt!
Green Day are sell outs! They're trying to get us to buy Jimi Hendrix records!"

Of course getting a mature, unbiased, and coherent answer in this section seems like too much to ask.
Since a large number of people in this section are, well, bandwagon douches.

I have a problem with the pseudo-political path they've taken that clearly demonstrates they have very little understanding of politics in general. They've jumped into the latest fad of celebrities bashing capitalism when, in fact, it was capitalism that led to their celebrity status. Capitalism itself is not responsible for bullsh*t like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, that's simply driven by people with no self respect, but it is responsible for the rise of the major entertainment corporations, which distribute and promote Green Day's music, along with the other bands, movies, and TV shows that we all enjoy. They're yet another example of celebrity hypocrites biting the hand that feeds, and all the while people listen to their political message with the false impression that it shows they're sincere intellectuals and not diluted idiots.



EDIT: And Fructose makes an accurate point as well.



And personally I like many of their songs, but some of their newer stuff and the way that people receive it really irks me.

I don't think it's so much their music as it is this idea that they're some bada** punk band. They aren't. Green Day are Pop Punk.



Another problem people have with Green Day is that they grew up. All three members are currently 39 years old. Billie Joe Armstrong is married, and has two teenage children. Mike Dirnt is also a father. At some point, you get too old to write songs about masturbation, and learning to make it on your own. Some people can't stand to see their favorite band changes gears, and starts writing different types of music.

Some of the cocky answers they give or the way they just are. They are foregin ( Canadian) band. With the song " American Idiot" it offended huge crowds. Knownly that most of their fans were american. But, they're really down to Earth. Just the act they put on. They think their bad *** and, think and simily are categorized as an insult to Rock genre. Horrid things they preform or do on stage during a preformance that most likely unacceptable. It took the shortest time for Parents to hate them too and, to not let their chidren enjoy their music andprevent them from being influenced by them. Kids now a days liek the loud and screeching music. They like head nobbing awesomeness. IT's just a way for them to feel rebelious in their own little way. It's like paradise for a child. With this they did very bad things. Which lead parents to think that Green day was influencing them. Then hatred went world wide. Though it's just a kid's phase, they hated Green Day either way. But, the true fans stuck with them to the end and, nto as much hate is thrown towards them now a days. yess there are ignorant people still out there that have a cement block around their heads and, are just plain stubborn. Btu, every successful band gets bad references. It just the music industry my friends.

It's pretty simple, they are classed as a punk band when they are quite obviously not and don't try and tell me they're early stuff was punk, I've heard it and it isn't. Don't get me wrong, I actually really like them but they are a Rock/Pop band (and a very good one) that play in a Punk style but I think it just pisses a lot of people off when they get described as punk.

People never listen to their music,I'm a fan,But I have had friends who are fans of other bands criticizing Green Day until I started playing a song from "Dookie" out loud (Which they only heard like one song from American Idiot) and they actually liked it.



So I would say...People are just ignorant..They judge them by what they look like.

Like..when they made American idiot,People would call them Emo,goth..But in reality.

I'm not a huge Green Day fan myself, but they aren't that bad. I quite liked the album American Idiot. Hipsters just seem to conform to other hipsters' decisions about bands.

Any band that has achieved their level of popularity is going to have a lot of people who hate them unconditionally. Punk purist don't like them because they're not very "punk" and many of their fans think they are. They have cheapened the entire genre.
