Mudhoney

- Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge

Raw Power. A somewhat heart pumping album with nice album work and an eye catching title.

- Piece of Cake

Not received well by critics, but had some songs on it that ranked it above other albums which did garner positive reviews. Blinding Sun being one of the main reasons because of it's funk. One of my favorites.

- Mudhoney (self titled)

Sloppy, energetic work. Well received by critics during it's release. Combined together to make a favorite.

- Under a Billion Suns

A slight tone downed sound compared to their other work maybe present, but does contain some songs with various influence and references to their earlier work.

- My Brother the Cow

Not a huge fan, but showcases their original influences throughout the album. Nice stuff for the typical Grunge lover.

Swans. been on a Swans binge lately, no sign of stopping soon.

1) Swans Are Dead (1998) *****

the greatest Swans album ever, and one of my favorite live albums. every song is given star treatment, it's epic, scary, bleak, just a massive album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKxUkpMzlrc

2) Soundtracks for the Blind (1996) *****

my 2nd favorite Swans album. Swans started all crazy industrial in the 80s, and they got extremely lowkey towards the end of their career, going almost minimal post-rock. Very creepy, ambitious, mindblowing stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz--mUSi36M&feature=related

3) Great Annihilator (1995) ****1/2

One of the Swans more upbeat and fast albums, like the previous 'Love of Life.' Almost Sonic Youth-ish at times. I like that it sounds unlike any other albums in their overall output.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bCUZX6g8BM&feature=PlayList&p=70D0BD97843C1CE9&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=63

4) Love of Life (1992) ***

Probably my least favorite Swans album. the bunny album, kind of repetitive and more structured than their normal stuff. Not that it doesn't have its moments, but its more of a transitional album between 'White Light from the Mouth of Infinity' and 'Great Annihilator'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkjlrWK2Sqw

5) White Light from the Mouth of Infinity (1991) *****

My third favorite Swan record. Dark, brooding, gothic, melodic, and at times very simple. This was when they really started to develop their late era sound.

Don't really have a favorite band right now but i'll just do Red Hot chili Peppers

Stadium Arcadium:

Disappointing, i think they were just trying a bit to heard. It's missing some of Anthony's raw lyrics. It's a bit over produced and to much was done after recording. I like the fact that it is a double album since i may not like the overall album but i still get 8 or some songs off it that i like. 3/5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N1XbKHNH7Y

By The Way:

Once again, i prefer old, non mainstream and commercial RHCP but this wasn't to bad. IT had some nice funky songs on it that i enjoyed, wasn't bad. A few songs i could of done without though. John does a great job with melody's and it still sounds like the chili peppers 4/5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnfyjwChuNU

Californication:

One of my favorites, definitely sounds funky like their older stuff. Probably in the Top 3 RHCP albums. Around the World, Parallel Universe and Get On Top sound like raw funky Peppers but This Velvet Glove, Road Trippin, and Scar Tissue are more melodic, very good album. 4.5/5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVcaArHvj0c

One Hot Minute:

Why are people down on this album, it ain't that bad, it might not be their best but they are pretty versatile on it. With stuff like Warped, Aeroplane, and then stuff like My Friends and Tear Jerker. Not Bad, Not great, underrated. 3.5/5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kT5w27YxyI

Blood Sugar Sex Magik

This is the classic, this is an essential, every song is great, they keep it funky with Power of Equality, Suck my Kiss, Funky Monks, and Give it Away, but then venture to softer stuff like Under the Bridge. Great. 5/5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKOc2S1AkjE (great live performance)

Overall their last 5: 4/5

hello Erowid! :D

I'll do Fugazi

1. The Arguement (2001)

I thoguht this album was pretty awesome, but it is my least favorite by them

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNYbKFi8HVM&feature=related

2. End Hits (1999)

This album rules!!!! i really dig the album cover too

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RHqYtba2sQ&feature=related

3. Red Medicine (1995)

this album had a really cool cover too. It also had some really great song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HrKh1fdxHM

4. In on the Kill Taker (1993)

This is probably my favorite album cover that Fugazi has, its kind of eerie. The album itself is amazing too. cool fact: the album refrenced the classic movie Annie Hall

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfvDs2O1CTI&feature=related

5. Steady Diet of Nothing (1991)

this isnt one of my favorites by them but its good none the less. heres a cool fact about it: Six months before the release, Dischord had pre-orders of over 160,000 for the album

feels used to be my favorite, now it's strawberry jam

in rainbows:

entering their 40s, i didnt expect much from the radiohead. but they put out a solid album and then some (a whole 'nother disc which is also good). it had a good variety of sounds, clean alternative 'weird fishes', orchestrated 'all i need' as well as an early virsion of 'nude'. dirtier rock and roll like 'bodysnatchers' and electronic like '15 step'. radiohead proved they have maintained their songwriting juices and are still dedicated to putting out fully formed, thought out material. and in some ways, although to a much lesser extent, theyre still experimenting as in 'videotape''s ultra-synchopation.

hail to the thief:

so radiohead has been huge for close to decade at the time this album comes out, but somehow, this album and amnesiac fly straight under the radar. the early 2000s was an explosion of creativity for the band. this album starts out magnificently, like it's going to be a true classic. but it slows tremendously down and loses its energy. solid eerie, classic radiohead electronics. one of their best songs overall with 'there there'

amnesiac:

amnesiac doesnt feel as comprehensive as other albums. especially since it was widely regarded as an after thought to kid a. but it is possibly their most interesting sound they ever managed. it sounds like a very specific time and place and some wildly gorgeous tracks came out of it. there are holes, and it's not so in your face, but it should be acknowledged as a highlight in their career.

kid a:

kid a and ok computer seem very conceptual which is very different from hail to the thief and in rainbows which seem to be a lot of songs thrown together. i hear two things from radiohead at this time. 1) they werent having fun. 2) they could hardly contain their songwriting prowess. it comes off as moody and angsty, like ok computer if ok computer wasnt scared what its friends would think if it was just 'climbing up the walls' all the time

ok computer:

widely considered their best work. i truthfully think every radiohead album has at least 4 amazing songs on it. ok computer is a great display of what radiohead does best, building an atmosphere to an electric and charged climax. for the first time, radiohead embraced what they were. with pretty guitars and creepy electronics and all.

**** you BOTH, King Crimson and Jerry.

Fine. Genesis.

1. ...Calling All Stations... (1997)

Rating: 1/5

As much as I love Genesis, this is one of the WORST ALBUMS EVER MADE. Stay away at all costs.

2. We Can't Dance (1991)

Rating: 3/5

Pretty good pop music. "Driving the Last Spike" and "Fading Lights" are leagues better than anything on Invisible Touch.

3. Invisible Touch (1986)

Rating: 2/5

Speaking of which, this is their second worst album, behind Stations. Over-and-poorly-synthesized pop garbage.

4. Genesis (1983)

Rating: 4/5

The band's last truly great album. A few throwaways (especially "Illegal Alien"), but the "Home by the Sea" suite definitely makes up for it.

5. Abacab (1981)

Rating: 5/5

Definitely the best album they recorded after Steve Hackett left.

Born Too Late by Saint Vitus

Is probably Saint Vitus's 2nd best masterpiece. It starts out with a pure classic....Born Too Late which is practically a anthem. Besides that they other greats such as The War Starter which happens to be one of my favorites. This album is very mixed with emotion may it from depression or Happiness.

I rate this album from 1-10 a 9

Mournful Cries by Saint Vitus

My favorite album by Saint Vitus they sped up their pace a little in this one. It's a little more up beat and happy. It doesn't have any classics which I find strange because Dragon Time could of had one of the best solos I have ever heard. But this overall is great in every place. It is overall wonderful and never gets boring which is easy for a Doom band to do.

I give this one a 10

V by Saint Vitus

They stay more upbeat in this also. Which is still good. This album isn't their best though it just didn't have that feel to it that I love about Saint Vitus. Although I will admit Wino's singing got better. Also Ice Monkeys is a very good song so much distortion :P. Overall it was good.

I give it a 8

C.O.D (children of Doom) by Saint Vitus

Oh how I love this album. When I first heard Cod I couldn't believe it was Wino his singing changed. I still am not sure if it was for good or worse. Cod is also one of Saint Vitus' classics. It also had a more Ozzy Sabbath feel. Which was great don't get me wrong.

So I give it a 9

Die Healing by Saint Vitus

They go back to more slower and deathy sounding. Also Wino's singing gets even more better :P. Also they have my theme song Sloth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJBhxROVnSw

hehe I love that song.

You owe me a 20 minutes of my life back XP.

edit - KC, I hate you.

Since Vampire Weekend only have two albums

King Crimson

1. The Power to Believe (2003)

Interesting album. Adds another level of versatility to Robert Fripp's compositions. This album is great. It sounds really futuristic, everything is more synthy and electronic and spacey, but it's still good. Adrian Belew's voice is autotuned on a lot of the songs, so it makes the instrumental parts a lot better.

2. The ConstruKction of Light (2000)

This album is probably their second worst, after Red. But that doesn't matter much since I love all of them. There's another part of Larks Tongues in Aspic on it, which is nice. The lyrics on it are extremely sarcastic and often fail at trying to be funny. It's got some of their 80s New Wave sounds on it, which isn't bad, but you would have expected them to evolve 19 years after Discipline. Songs like Into the Frying Pan dabble in Psychedelia, which they haven't done before. It's great but not one I'd recommend to a new listener.

3. Thrak (1995)

I haven't even listened to all of this one yet. What I did hear on it seemed a bit funky, like a lot of 90s rock was. There's a song on it about how ridiculously old they are, which is random. I really like what I have heard from it though. VROOM and Walking on Air are great songs.

4. Three of a Perfect Pair (1984)

This one is like prog pop the first half and experimental the second half. It's got my favorite part of Larks Tongues in Aspic on it though, Part III. Both halves are good, but they don't feel very unified.

5. Beat (1982)

I LOVE this album. Waiting Man is one of my top 3 songs by them. It's got some world music influences this time, and it continued with the New Wave thing they had going but, combined with some other influences they added to their arsenal, sounds COMPLETELY different from Discipline, only a year later. This is their best album after 1971.

Since KC jacked KC from me and I have no life, I'll do OutKast as well.

1. Idlewild (2006)

This album gets hated on too much. Big Boi was at his best (See The Mighty O and Morris Brown) form since Aquemini and Andre 3000 continued to show off his versatility, maybe even surpassing The Love Below on his solo songs on the album. Plus the female-centric songs are all at least decent. The Greatest Show on Earth is GREAT.

The Mighty O - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNIQyqL1ZaQ

2. Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2004)

The first time they separated to show their individual sides. It wasn't what anybody was expecting. Big Boi stopped being a gangster and instead focused on really deep stuff, and Andre 3000 just made everybody go WTF. The media ate it up but the OutKast fans felt betrayed for a while. Some people still but they're just nostalgic. The Love Below is better than any OutKast album except Aquemini.

Tomb of the Boom - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpPgspVhmW0

My Favorite Things - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34-lvMf_sMY

3. Stankonia. (2000)

The album that made them mainstream. It's got Ms. Jackson, So Fresh, So Clean, and B.O.B. Not much to say about this one. It's such a good album, even though it's probably their only album with songs that I could call "filler."

B.O.B. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8nd82s_Dh8

4. Aquemini (1998)

Their best album. I can't even talk about this. It's just amazing. They both proved themselves as top-notch MCs on this album.

Da Art of Storytellin Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8B8Z9l12SA

5. ATLiens (1996)

Andre 3000 was still gangster on this album, which doesn't really fit for him, Big Boi did better on it than him because he does a lot better as a gangster. The production on this is really good too, songs like E.T. and the title track have some of their best beats.

E.T. (Extraterrestrial) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTso4MGednQ

okay ima pick AC/DC

1) Black Ice (2008)

This was my first album I ever bought and I loved it at first. But now that I think of it, it really isn't that good =/ it still has a few good tracks on it though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX2xbqWtyJU

2) Stiff Upper Lip (2000)

This be an average album. Good but nothing TOO great or anything. i listen to it everyone once in a while.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9fLcwmo8vU

3) Ballbreaker (1995)

I really liked this one even if it isn't as great as back in black or highway to hell it still contains sum of mah favortie AC/DC songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjsZXKJgXdY

4) The Razor's Edge (1990)

Now here be a vewy gud album bai tehm. lots of nice songs. =D one of mah favorite albums by tehm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9odlQ7-_a_0&feature=related

5) Blow up your video (1988)

Well The Verve only have 4 albums due to their many breakups but their still my favorite band so I'll decode their albums anyways.

1. Fourth (2008)

This one has a interesting sound to it. Aside from the main song "Love is Noise" they all seem to skirt a fine line between Shoegaze/Dream Pop and Alternative Rock. Each song seems lush like Shoegaze but still a bit more grounded and not as airy. Overall It is just as good as their other three no matter what the critics say.

2. Urban Hymns (1997)

This is definitely there most successful album with songs like "Bittersweet Symphony", "Lucky Man", and "Drugs Don't Work". It has the most Alternative Rock or as some people would say Britpop sound. This album just clicks with each song flowing right into the next. This is also my favorite album of all time.

3. A Northern Soul (1995)

This marks their first foray into Alternative Rock. "History" is a great song which the style of Strings was the base for many of the songs on Urban Hymns. It also did a terrific job of staying with their Shoegaze roots with songs like "A New Decade" and "Stormy Clouds" but overall it was a very nice setup for Urban Hymns.

4. A Northern Soul (1993)

Just a great Shoegaze/Dream Pop album. Every song is just top notch. Highly underrated album.

Edit: Forgot to add my favorite songs.

1. "Love Is Noise"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk-gA7B6e-Q

2. "Bittersweet Symphony"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3m4e45bTo

3. "History"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UthXR8NAn_Q

4. "Virtual World"

King Crimson
2010-06-15 16:17:22 UTC
I'll go with King Crimson since they had relatively recent albums, and they changed a lot.

1) The Power to Believe (2003)

A great modern KC album, they showed they could easily "out-heavy" modern bands and also incorporate modern "electronic" influence, while still retaining that essential KC identity. By no means their best album, but breath a of fresh air as when any KC album comes out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa_kaWWQNMQ&feature=related

2) The ConstruKction of Light (2000)

One of the best albums of 2000, not one of their better albums, but it is still solid, and Prozac Blues is an instant classic. Brought KC into the new millenium nicely, very "angular" sounding on a lot of it, no shortage of "Frippy" guitar parts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PZL6Qg8l0s

(couldn't find one of Prozac Blues, but it's a masterpiece)

3) Thrak (1995)

KC's only 90's album, but one of the best of the decade, imo. This was the first album after their "New Wave" phase and shows a heavier, darker influence, but also brings back some of the traditional melodicity of the classic 70's era of KC. Dinosaur, Walking on Air, and People are amazing songs, but the whole thing is solid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2ArBVblCl4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9dKrLY-dbg

(had to post both)

4) Three of a Perfect Pair (1984)

The last of their "New Wave" era, this album had a split of more "pop" songs, and experimental stuff, and it is all top notch. Not as good as Discipline, but better than Beat, imo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWyJfdob0a4&feature=related

5) Beat (1982)

Not as amazing as the masterpiece that came before, namely "Discipline", but a solid album nonetheless, with one of their best pop tunes, "Heartbeat" and an amazing jam in Sartori in Tangier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdjGdCaeOkU&feature=related

edit: lol, sorry Jerr. :P Hey we each have our own thoughts on the albums.
