Question:
Story Time!!?

Hello my dear R&Pers!

So, today a Time Life collection commercial came on, and it was for 50's music. It was about a half hour long, and me, loving 50's stuff, turns it on.

My dad comes in the room and immediatly sits down. He loves music from his generation. After the commercial is over, and I already have my fingers on the phone dialing the number, my dear old Dad just has to add "See, these people are still around and relevant today, The Beatles just came and left"

Wrooong thing to say to me. He knows I love them, he was just sore about me putting a giant picture of them above my bed.

So we held a half hour long debate about how they influenced so many, how they are still very relevent today, how their music is timeless and blah, blah, blah.

I won.

Anyway, you really don't have to read all that nonsense, but my question is: have someone ever critisized one of your favorite bands simply because they knew you liked them? And have you ever had to defend them?

I hope Gene Vincent was included in that 50s collection.

Nah nobody has critisized any bands I like because I like them.....I used to do that to certain people though. But i've grown up from that.

*edit* Gene Vincent sang the original Be Bop A Lula :)

Ignorant people are constantly criticizing The Grateful Dead. They focus on their drug years, instead of the art. What they fail to realize, thet the music they are listening to (which is mostly crap), those people are doing drugs as well, they just haven't been found out yet. If people would shut their mouth, and open their minds and ears, they would realize that The Grateful Dead has amazing, timeless, talented music, unrivaled, especially in todays sea of fake, pop crap, that have no talent at all! I like to tell them, come back to me in 40 years and see if their little bands are still around, granted Jerry is deceased (R.I.P), BUT, their legacy will live on forever, unlike most of the crap these days!

OH GOD YES! I love those Time Life things! I stayed up for two hours watching ones about Disco and 80s Pop... I was so tempted to dial the phone number at the bottom of the screen, but that would require me waking my mom up for a credit card number and spending tons of money... which I cant do so I didn't get either :( I also watched one on Motown, it makes me feel all giddy when I see them :P

To answer your main question, yes, I have... a lot of people Criticize Nirvana, even in R&P bashing them is rampant.. I have defended them a lot and a good amount of the time I have won, for some reason some people think they were the worst thing ever to happen to music. Sometimes though there is no winning with people... when people start making fun of his suicide it gets me very angry, you shouldn't make fun of somebodies death, that's just wrong, but the thing is those are the people you usually cant win with.. they have their head so far up their *** they think its a good thing to make fun of somebodies suicide just because they don't like their music. If I ever heard somebody in public make fun of his suicide or really any persons death I would punch them out, you just don't f*ucking go there.

Ha, I hate that commercial. Not because of the music, I love the music, but because of Bowser lol (I'm pretty sure that's the same one)

Kind of. My friend and I always pick out a band that we both like and take different sides. Like he'll point out flaws and I'll do my best to defend them, and vice-versa. It sounds dumb but it's really fun lol.

I hate it when people criticize your favorite band, or favorite genre of music. I call them music snobs. I am the type of person who likes all types of music, from classical, to classic rock to country, to rap. Some I like more than others, but I respect everyone's opinion about music. I don't understand why people have to criticize others musical interests.

I have seen that info-mercial several times. Bowser of SHA NA NA, can you believe they performed at WOODSTOCK????

Well, I listen to stuff like the Dead and King Crimson as well as the Beatles so I'm somewhat used to it. I don't really try to defend my taste anymore because most people who do that to you are just trying to get your goat. People like music for different reasons and really, if they don't get it, they don't.

Yeah, one of the kids in my graphic design class used to randomly come up to me and go "Hey, Pink Floyd sucks...I like good music like We the Kings...yeah..."

Also, I had a debate with this semi friend of mine once, she said The JB were better then Pink Floyd. Meeeeehhhh...I'm not sure how we started talking about it, though.

lol, nice :)

yeah, i had a friend (we're not friends anymore, luckily) who got annoyed at me for constantly talking about/listening to music. finally she sort of blew up at me and said The Who sucked, Let It Be was the only good Beatles song, etc. so we had a pretty big argument about whether "Pinball Wizard" was a stupid name for a song or a totally badass one.

Yeah! This guy always, when i wear a Guns N' Roses shirt he ALWAYS has to say that they suck, or he hates them. But EVERYONE knows, he likes em too. He's such a prick. He likes the same kinda music i like, but he gots to criticize me just to look superior.

People have critisized my music taste but I don't think it was just because I like them. But I've had to defend them.

YES

People at school criticize me for liking Buddy Holly, Elvis, AND The Beatles, merely because I like them and no one else does, and they know sh*t about them. I hate my generation.

my family, especially my dad, hates the fact that i have a poster of Iron Maiden, Coldplay, CKY and HIM on my walls so he constanly criticizes them. it totally bites
