do it yourself, and never just restring 1 string if one breaks restring the whole thing because you don't want the 1 string to sound better than the others

Looks like one person here gave a great link for step by step instructions. Changing a guitar string is easier than changing a broken shoe lace. You will need a peg winder though. If you don't have one just pick one up at Guitar Center (take the guitar with you) and tell them that you have never changed a string before. Ask if someone would have time to show you how to do it properly. They will most likely say, sure bring it in. They will either walk you through it or just do it for you while you watch. You really don't want to depend on someone else every time you need strings replaced.

You mean the D string? Why would you pay to get someone to restring it ? Go down to guitar center or where ever get yourself a pack of Ernie Ball Strings ( theyre about 5 something). And do it yourself, or if you know someone or have a family member who can do it, Its not hard. And who knows how long it will take. Changing strings is something no guitarist wants to do but hey, we do it. It doesnt take long for one string

well first of all its really easy to do and you could do it yourself.... but if you go into guitar center they will help you put them on if you bring in your guitar. the strings cost about $7-10 each. I'm sure if you ask nicely and there not busy they would help you for free....but serosulty all you have to do it cut off the old strings so the guitar is stringless and feed the news ones up through the guitar and cut them an inch or so more than the chuck at the top and then tune. here's a video on how to do it..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQjxWBQfegE ...its sooo easy dont worry its almost impossible to wreck a guitar with strings! also heres a great website for tuning http://www.howtotuneaguitar.org

Knowing your instrument and keeping it up are two things that a musician should honestly know how to do.

Especially if its just 1 string.

i wouldnt waste the gas.

The only thing that could be considered difficult when stringing your guitar is if you have a double locking floating tremolo system like a floyd rose or edge series trem. Then a novice might want that professionally set up.

But if you have a vintage trem or fixed bridege (either tune-o-matic with string thru, tune-o-matic with tailpiece, or standard fixed thru bridge) it should take 3 minutes to restring one string and the most time consuming part would be winding and tuning.

Dont go to guitar center, explore it yourself and learn the workings of your instrument. trust me it will help in the long run.

You can retune your own guitar for free. And in under a minute, unless you have a Floyd Rose tremolo. You can also restring your own guitar. Strings usually cost around $5 a pack.

I doubt they will charge you anythign to restring it at all, you just have to pay for the strings.

a tip for the future - have they guy restringing the guitar teach you how to do it so you can DIY in the future. that would be a lot easier.
