Question:
Music from the '00s - Classic rock elitists, this is to you. Listen before you criticize, please(Part 1)?

Hello, all! Today, I wish to bring to light some of the wonderful bands of this past decade. A lot of people around Rock & Pop will automatically criticize all recent music because they're unwilling to dig through the **** to find the gems. The bands aren't necessarily from the '00s, but the songs I present will be. So allow me to present these gems to you in a series of questions, as I can only post so many links per Q.

Now, each of these bands will be different, unique, and rather good. Sure, they don't sound like Black Sabbath, but that doesn't mean they're not great. So! Here we go:

Everyone's Talking - 2008 - One of the most musically impressive bands I've heard in a very long time, they started just 2 years ago. Not mainstream in any way, shape, or form. Their singer is very talented, they use a myriad of instruments, they really are a gem.

Floater - 1993 - From Portland, Oregan, these guys are one of the most versatile bands I've ever listened to.

OK.. thsi is gonna be done in a couple of edits.....

the first to answer the general premise... and the second after i get a chance to check your links.....

Well... firstly..t he people who say that are either lazy, or IMO ignorant..or usually a mix of both. And I can say I was borderline on becoming one. I was from the tape swapping underground era, where we could pass along demos and mixes of allt he new stuff hitting the scene..... ( ah the 80s) and then Yo MTV Raps hit, and grunge and Alternative became the Mainstream, and Boy Bands invaded.. and I too thought Rock n Roll and REAL Metal had gone the way of the dodo bird.

By the late 90s i was in a musical funk like you would not believe. Then I got the internet, and found a few bands.. then I gor on R&P lo those many years ago, and listened to other Rock n Metal fans suggestions, learned about Pandora, Last FM, Youtube, Myspace etc... and suddenly the floodgates re-opened.

It's true most of what I hunt down is metal, but I also love good rock and especially Stoner rock. Now I admit... there does not seem to be teh prevelance of Arena Rock, like the Freddie Mercuries of the world, but there is tons of good music.. and as many of the actual musicians of the "Classic Rock" era have done.. maybe it's time to open your tiny minds up to somethign besides the Allman Brothers. Look at David Bowie, the guy has experimented with Trip Hop, Jungle, AOR, Dance, etc.......

In other words... he isn't being small minded about where to find music.

Personally, I feel with the increasingly open internet, and the networking it allows, anyone who says "there is no longer any good music" deserves a swift kick in the head.

**will comment on the links in a bit.

Everyone's Talking, had more of a modern Cat Steven's vibe to me than anything. Didn't care much for war pt 1, but the rest was pretty good. Cannot say it was instantly catchy enough to make we want to run out and buy it, but it was good.

Floater - Kinda reminds me of Clutch in how their sound seems to change with virtually every track. Crusatyer actually reminded me a lot of Bon Jovi's Blaze of Glory in the intro, lol. Again... good stuff, nothign I am wild over, but it proves the point that modern rock bands don't have to be crap. As does Clutch and many more.

To be honest, I hate A Skylit Drive and As Blood Runs Black. However, We Came as Romans are pretty decent. There are some key bands you forgot there, but that's unimportant. Regardless, while oftentimes I find older music is better than some of the newer stuff, that doesn't always apply. Some of my favorite bands are from more recent times. My second favorite band formed in '93 (Floater, from Oregon) and my favorite folk metal band (Tuatha de Danann, Celtic folk from Brazil) formed in 1995. So I agree with you. Although Elitists of any genre are f*cking twatbag morons, the Classic Rock Elitists are some of the most annoying.

It'll take me awhile to listen to these, and when I do I'll come back, and comment.

Everyone's Talking reminds me way too much of Dave Matthews, not to say they're not talented cause they are, but to me, blech.

Floater were Ok but didn't really grab me as being unusual or different in any way.

I will keep listening to the rest of the links, this is just initial impressions

I hope you're planning on adding Vampire Weekend to your list at some point. Know that I fully support your... campaign? I've been trying to advocate 90's and 2000's rock to classic rock elitists since I became a R&P reg.

edit - Ok so how did you find out about Everyone's Talking? They don't even have a wikipedia page... But they're amazing.

Well I think probably about 95% of all music ever made is crap, but that still leaves a margin of a couple million good bands and a couple thousand amazing ones. :P

I'll listen in a bit

Well i didn't say all music was bad these days, but around 95% of it is absolute garbage. But I'm fully aware that their are still some bands out there that will eventually rise up and save music from the record companies who care about money over talent.
