Ah, I can't stand music these days.

I think rap is the worst thing.

Crank That - Soulja Boy

I'm actually not sure if that's the name...its something like that.

and what kind of name is Soulja Boy?

The worst thing about modern day music is that it's all about money money money...prime example: The Jonas Brothers. They make money not music.

The worst thing about modern music is the tv shows can turn anyone into a star and that now guitar hero has people turning the art, dedication, and passion of playing an instrument into a freakin' video game... Just like MADDEN 2009 turns our kids into obese couch potatoes instead of athletes, Guitar Hero is going to stop the growth of real Guitar Heroes

Worst example of the reality show driven musical crap? The song "Dirty Vegas" that the remaining members of INXS hijacked from some wannabe rocker and tried to market to the world. Nothing worse than a bunch of middle-aged players that finally ran out of the money that Michael Hutchence brought into their lives... that was the low point for me.
2008-09-06 19:55:16 UTC
JB will always stand for James Brown. As far as the worst thing about modern music, I would say lazy melody writing. Taking three notes and singing them over and over endlessly while changing a word here & there is NOT good song writing. Epitome? Just listen to pop radio.
2008-09-06 19:32:14 UTC
Haha, that's actually a nice comment to make.I updated my associations pretty quickly though.James Brown rules,by the way.

Emo people are people under 16 usually,so I don't think anybody should be offended by adolescent angst and inevitable (not conscious most of the times) idiocy. But if they're adults,I assume that yeah...

MQ:That it is so generic,I would say.I mean, pop punk, which is still in fashion, has produced hundreds of bands that sound so alike you literally cannot tell them apart.I do not listen to the radio(lack of stations basically) and I do not watch TV,so I cannot really provide a good example;I just hear bits and pieces from here and there.I suppose all of the Jonas Brothers songs would serve as good ones.

I've never heard anyone, personal or professional, refer to James Brown as 'JB', so I'm not sure where you're getting your history from. Nor do I see or hear any connection between James Brown (soul), Jonas Brothers (pop) or Emo. 3 totally different types of music with no comparison to each other.

Just a guess, but Holocaust Survivors and pre-Civil Rights Movers probally don't have a clue who Jonas Brothers OR what 'emo' is? They would all be pretty old, if still living, and may remember James Brown, but Jonas and 'emo'? I mean if you found a bunch of worms in your food, that would probally cause you to complain about it and I don't think that would take away or insult any holocaust survivor, civil rights mover or anyone else, would it? So why would a genre of music or a Disney pop band cause them distress? They made it through the Holocaust and if they're still alive, they've made it through 9-11 too. I think if they even HEARD (an aweful) emo song, it just wouldn't be at the top of their list of complaints throughout their whole lifetime. I think you're just taking this a bit too serious but your comparisons, imho, are uncomparable, to say the least.

MQA: The worst thing about 'modern day music' is everyone tries so hard now to be 'the next big thing' that all we listeners end up with are lots of bands/performers doing lots of 'little things'. Newer bands are afraid to step out of the norm because if they do, then they're record company will drop them after that first or 2nd album and then we never hear from them again, so that keeps them afraid of experimenting a little bit more and being more innovative and original. I call myself 'Cookie Cutter' on here because I'm just another version of all of you guys. I don't really feel the that we're all 'programmed the same' but I believe that's what the media tries to make us; thus I 'jokingly' call myself 'Cookie Cutter' as to spoof us all as clones of genres and sub-genres. But in reality, we need, and/or our bands need to be more individual and not just 'cookie cut-outs' of whatever band is currently the trend. They want us to be clones and buy the cloned music. So it's in our power to choose and listen to the bands that are making life interesting to us instead of 'just what's playing on the radio'. We need to stand up and shout "WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT"! LOL!

Rock isn't rock. The instrumental parts are typically be nice, but the lyrics are just horrible, ei All American Rejects. I like the music on the radio because those have a quality. Plus, a lot of singers now a days can sing, ei. Leona Lewis. I love Bleeding Love. haha

Generally, however, I listen to oldies, at least in comparison to my generation, and Japanese rock.

I sometimes do, but then again I probably confuse more when I use artist's nicknames instead of their proper ones.

i.e Peter Hook = Hooky, Bernard Sumner = Barnie, Morrissey = Mozz or Mozza, John Paul Jones = JPJ, Jean Michel Jarre = JMJ or often just Jarre...

MQ: The whole notion that music taste and dress code are somehow linked.

I Love James Brown. They sure don't make em like they used too!

The worst thing in modern day music is the rap,in which they cuss & swear & degrade women. And the songs have no tune. now on the upside of things there are a few good songs out there. Duffy ,Nora Jones , Celine Dion Whitney Houston,Josh Groben, Mariah Carey,Tina Turner & Cher were on Oprah & they are still good as ever.

Hmmm...Is anybody attempting to objective, how hyped up this newborn is? No. only no! James Brown can sing, and probably extra effective than Michael yet I choose Michael's voice. Justin Bieber's voice is cracking. EDIT: What does seems could do with skills? and due to this you're able to in no way evaluate him to Legends or each and every individual.
2008-09-06 20:33:24 UTC
I would definitely get offended. I mean, these guys are bitching and bitching about a girl not liking them. I can barely stand them as it is...

MA: Disney channel bullshit. Things like the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, etc. etc. The epitome would have to be the Jonas Brothers "covering" "Hello, Goodbye" by the Beatles and their little fans giving THEM credit for it.
2008-09-06 20:48:04 UTC
I KNOW! I find it pathetic that people have to fit into a specific group all the time. It's overwhelming: Scene, Goth, Emo, Punk, Skater, Prep, blah blah blah...Why can't we just be ourselves?

And I have this Emo kid at my school who's recently started cutting herself because she wants to be "Hardcore". Why would you do something as stupid as that to show you're not a Poser? Ridiculous.
2008-09-07 18:43:54 UTC
I don't get that confused, but I guess that's because James Brown was before my time. When I see it stand for James Brown is when I get confused! LOL

I completly agree with you! It's like if they're unhappy with their lives, then why don't they swap with somebody in the ghetto, or livin' in some country with a dictatorship. Then I'd like to see them complain.

jelly beans and jim beam? idk. james brown was no saint either. but don't be so hard on these highly emotionally-charged emo's. they are like everybody else that have issues of fustration with things they cannot change. some emo bands--linkin park for one, is actually out there trying to save the planet through their enviornmental causes. james brown never did a thing for the enviornment except end up in jail. play nice.

Don't cry because you dislike a band, get over it. Besides, emos aren't that bad. Let emos complain about their lives, after all, you are complaining about what they do in their spare time. If an emo wants to complain, who cares. I really don't. And as far as JB is concern, I happen to like Jonas Brothers. Think that's pathetic? I reassure you, complaining about the band/modern music on Yahoo!Answers is BY FAR more pathetic.
