The end of another month (my sched. didn't allow me to ask this yesterday), I like to ask, as I've done for some time now, what's happening on the local music scene in your area..anything, have you, or will you be attending a concert, is there a local musician/band you'd like to tell us about?...just about anything goes.

If nothing is happening music-wise, or if you'd like to share some other local current events story, please feel free to do so...Share with R&P, what's going down in your neck of the woods.

BQ: Song/Album of the month?

Happy May Day! (Rick Jeanneret with a blast from the past).

Not much. Although the other day, my boyfriend got a record deal on a independent label. He's in a blues and hard rock band so he's super excited. Other than that, I have exams at university for my english degree so I can pass and hopefully become a writer and poet.

BQ: Do you mean released this month? Well, I don't listen to modern music. But I have been listening to 'In Utero' by Nirvana a lot lately.

Hi Harvey!

This month's Classic Rock, great review of Rush. Thought uoiu'd like to know, in case you didn't know; that is.

Recently bought four new c.d's.

Two in particular, I'd like to tell you about.

The Harrow & The Harvest - Gillian Welch. This album came out last year. I just got it and, even though this album has been a long time in coming after Soul Journey, the quality of the songs / the playing is well worth the wait.

Johnny Dowd - No Regrets. This album is like an aural trawl through Film Noir. All of the songs are about Jonny's lady friends ( real or imaginary ). This album, is really good, in that it is so different to most of the stuff around currently. Worth listening to.

The other two albums:

Springsteen - Wrecking Ball. Good album.

Military Wives - In My Dreams. in the U.k. recently there was a programmes showing military ladies ( wives girlfriends of Service personnel ) making a charity single and; then an album. I am a H.M. Forces Veteran and I bought it. Sterling album, dead proud I bought it!

Song Of The Month: Two Sorry!

The Way It Will Be - Gillian Welch. Beautiful song.

Betty - Johnny Dowd. Good song, dead funny too.

Happy May Day to you too Harvey!!!!!!

May 4th is the Opeth/Mastodon concert, which I'll be attending.

Remember "Beatlemania" (the show)?. Well, I saw it a couple times during the late 70's and thought it was very good. It seems there's a new group for the show, and they'll be here June 13th...we're planning on going.

Iron Maiden is going to be here in July...got our tickets awhile back...looking forward to this too!

Of the 300 or so concerts coming to Calgary over the spring/summer, a few more are;

Dragonforce, Valdy, John Prine, BB King, Van Halen, Nickleback, Black Dahlia Murder, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Apocalyptica, Switchfoot, Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, Steve Earle, Bryan Adams, John Mellencamp, Edgar Winter, Herman's Hermits, Blue Rodeo, KD Lang, Bonnie Rait, The Beach Boys, Nazareth, 3 Inches Of Blood, Neil Diamond, Steve Martin And The Steep Canyon Rangers, CCR, Yanni, Emmylou Harris, Air Supply, Linkin Park, Gerry And The Pacemakers, Lee Aron/The Headpins, Dr. Hook, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Stampeders, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jesse Winchester, etc etc.

Lots of stuff for everybody it seems :)

Hey now Harvey. Rainy here in CT today but we need the rain! Been so dry that brush fires have been a huge concern. Today my daughter is officially "over 30". Try not feeling old w/that...LOL! Might go to the Mayhem Fest w/my man since I've never seen Slayer. I think this "ole" gal can handle it ;)

BQ: I'm waiting for my new Dave's Pick #2 to be delivered. It is the Grateful Dead from 1973 playing Dillon Stadium in Hartford, CT. Choose that show since Dillion Stadium is LONG gone but would give me some nostalgia.

Happy May Day to you as well :)

(((Smiley))) it's my Jenn's bday today as well (she's 31). Have a great time w/your sis and you are right...where has the time gone? Seems like yesterday I brought my baby girl home from the hospital *sniff* ;)

The Greenfield Lake Amphitheater kicked off the 2012 season a few weeks ago. Saturday "The Gourds" headline. Following in a couple weeks after that Taj Mahal. It's a small Amphitheater that acts like a medium size. The productions that use the facility have been bringing in selections of artists that fit my likings very well.

Hello hello :)

My neck of the woods is Johannesburg South Africa.

A great local jazz/ dance/ afro-fusion band Goldfish had a show recently. Do check them out, I usually can't stand anything close to house music but I promise this is worth it!:

lamb of god performing in may, and iced earth and kreator in june. rudra performed recently too.

i didn't get the time to go to local gigs because i had tests all year, but the music scene is improving exponentially.

current events: not much.
