If you have seen the "some kind of monster" rockumentary, do you remember the part where Lars and Dave Mustaine are sitting in a psychiatrists office and Dave is crying about being kicked out of the band?

Now that part has bothered me for years, because I feel that had Dave not ever left the band that #1. Metallica would not have ever been what they are, and not released some of their best songs, #2. I feel that Dave should be proud of Megadeth, they are a badass band, and the odds were stacked against him when he left.

I was just wondering if anyone felt that way? I dont really listen to alot of megadeth, but i think they are just as good as metallica.

And for those that are interested, this is a true story you will never hear on VH1. I have met dave mustaine before, in the 80's in hollywood. Axl Rose was trying to fight him in the Whiskey ya go go. Little known fact is that Dave is a 7th degree blackbelt, and he threw axl out of the bar on his ***.

thought you might like that story

I've seen it. Consider that he may not be crying out of "damn I got kicked out of Metallica" and maybe because he just felt something deeper. Mustaine made it his personal goal in life to create a better, more successful band than Metallica in the form of Megadeth. So perhaps he feels if he wasn't kicked out of Metallica, he could've pursued a million other goals, instead of making his entire music career into a form of vengeance against Metallica.

I would strongly presume he does take immense pride and happiness in creating Megadeth, but it could be he feels it sort of created a one way path in his life. That's MY opinion.

I'm actually a way bigger Megadeth fan than Metallica but you have to realize, Dave Mustaine is a HUGE egomaniac. He wants to be number one no matter what, so to him, Metallica won. If you ever see any of his interviews, you can tell that he has a superiority complex that is quite strong. Even though Megadeth has accomplished a lot, he will never be completely satisfied because of his personal issues. Isn't that ridiculous? I think we should take a look at his situation and learn something from it. I know I have.

I think Metallica would've made it with or without Dave. If you listen to some of those early pre-Dave demos, you can tell that the basic Metallica sound already existed, Dave just helped with the finishing touches (vocals, speed, and attitude in particular).

The fact is both bands were talented enough to have made it on their own. A lot of Megadeth fans tend to undersell the songwriting skills of James Hetfield, even though Dave wasn't the sole songwriter for Metallica (although though he was an important influence on that original sound). And even then, Metallica only sounded Dave-y for the first 2 or 3 albums, by Justice they were a completely different band than they were on Kill em All.

I always liked Megadeth a lot more than Metallica. I'm glad he got kicked out because we got all of those great albums.

A blackbelt huh? That would explain his arrogance.
