why are today's musicians all crap?

when i talk about a real entertainer i am talking about michael jackson. he was the greater entertainer (mainly singing and dancing) to walk the surface of the planet. and he got all that by using good clean and neat words in his songs and he was always properly dressed and he got people to listen and watch him by expressing emotions through his songs and dances.
but today most of the time, if the entertainer is a woman, she will be dressed like a $lut or Wh0re to make people watch her music videos and if it is a boy, it is all about 6 packs and swearing.
that is not real entertainment.

and i am not talking about this becasue i am a 70 year old pensioner. i am actually only 17 and i am a boy. and there is a reason why i think michael jackson is the not only the greatest entertainer but also one of the greatest man to walk the surface of the planet. (all that child molesting thing is crap, no one seems to care about all the charity things he does.

They're not "all" crap!

These days, you can barely call some of the popular artists musicians. It's just people singing with autotone and a computerized beat, and a couple of women dressed in skanky clothes to back it up. However, I completely disagree that MJ is one of the greatest men to walk the surface of the earth. When I first read this, I honestly was asking myself if you had been toking it up a bit when you wrote it. If you want some real entertainers...

The B-52s never leave somebody not dancing at their concerts.

And almost every metal band can get the crowd going insane (no, literally). Not a big fan of the band, but GWAR is a great example of that.

If you enjoy older entertainment, Frank Sinatra really made the crowd go nuts when he was around.

And please use proper grammar next time. "Charity things he does" should be did. Remember he died, right? Or are you one of those people who think Elvis, MJ and Buddy Holly are still alive and undercover?

You obviously have never listened to the good stuff. I'm a fan of Pink Floyd, Pixies, The Beatles, The Smiths and a lot of other great old bands. But 9/10 times I prefer new to listen to some new music.. I'll pull out the classics every now and then but there's something refreshing about hearing a good modern melody that some band that isn't making nearly as much money as the cunts using autotune put their heart and soul into.

You remind me a bit of my mom (even with you being 17). She loves Michael Jackson and then argues that music is dead because everyone is crap now, then has the cheek to use examples like Kesha, Rihana and Justin Bieber. I have tried to show her some good new music, I mean there is stuff out there for everyone. But she refuses to approach it with an open mind, like a lot of you do.

I wouldn't paint with such a broad stroke and say "all" are crap, however, I think the reason that music isn't as relevant as in the past is very few artists are really talking about something that affects us on a personal level in our daily lives. And those who do are copied by so many others that aren't really as talented but know how to make a quick splash, get their money & get out. The message seems to get "watered down" so to speak, along the way. For those of us who grew up in the 50's, 60's & 70's there was social, religious, political and personal changes going on all around that was "in your face" and people were singing and writing about it. Those topics are avoided by most artists today so as to make a buck.

Not all musicians are crap. Some are good, in my opinion. Although alot of them are crap. I think thats because people judge on whether they like a "musician" depending on how they look and the sex appeal.

Michael Jackson really was the greatest entertainer to walk the earth. He kept his morals etc. Lady gaga used to be normal, but ended up ditching all of that to be noticed.

musicians back then had to work tooth and nail to get into the music industry. the industry wasn't just going to accept anyone that can play a simple guitar chord because there was so much competition. proof of this is justin bieber, someone who started singing on youtube and is now everywhere. also back in the old days they didn't have no internet to download and pirate music so they actually made a profit back then. these days hardly anyone actually buys a CD or buys music legally so the music industry just accepts anyone who can make a catchy song because they'd lose too much money going after real talent that will put their heart and soul into their music, they wouldn't make much profit because it'd cost a lot to produce good music.

One of the main reasons, I think, is due to the the insane amount of so-called "talent" these days. In the late 20th century, TRUE talent like Michael Jackson(R.I.P.), were extremely rare and hard to find. Nowadays, however, there many "artistes" trying to sell themselves not through their talenr or passion, but through their image and fashion, which is utterly wrong and brings no meaning to the word "music". Even when they are really performing, some of them fail to meet the standards, which makes me wonder how they even got into the music industry in the first place. There are people whose talent is genuine, but nowadays they are drowning in a sea of mediocre performers, trying to shine through but just not getting spotted. That is the only sad thing about today's music industry.

its certainly NOT because your 70. im 33 and i think its awful too. most of it anyway. the thing is, these days sex sells, it doesnt matter what you sound like, it would seem, but the way you look. people dont put Passion into their music because they are too busy trying to look sexy. take x factor for instance, my mum loves the program. i cant stand it. the other week i was listening to the singers, i was on the computer so i wasnt watching it, just listening, and they sounded awful! ALL OF THEM! i had to put my earphones on. the judges in that program talk crap, and notice they always comment on the way the singers are dressed more than their singing??

If your talking rock you can go past the beatles and rolling stones, but I do agree, in the last 10 years nothing special has happened. The best I can suggest is punk/pop/rock bands like Blink182, New Found Glory and Unwritten Law. Ultimately artists have run out of ideas

TV talent shows churn manufactured 'entertainers' out so quickly it's like a production line and the market becomes saturated. Main aim: money with 'sex' being the main sales technique. Unfortunately, much of the real talent becomes hidden in all this.

Today's musicans are not all crap. There is some amazing music out there, you just have to make the effort to go out there and find it. There are still proper bands out there producing amazing albums worth buying and listening to, not just the commercial crap that is shoved infront of you on the TV and Radio.

EDIT: I also have to add this. The people saying all of today's music is trash clearly don't listen to anything except the mainstream music.

EDIT 2: I'd love to know what I said here that made 2 people 'thumbs down' it. It's not my opinion, it's the truth.

I would hate to generalize and say "all'', that having been said I think it is because there are so many copy cat bands and auto-tune singers with little to no talent to begin with that flood the music scene, that make it harder to find the true talent. It's still out there but we have to dig deep for it

Generally I find that every time someone says that all modern music is crap, they only listen to popular music and never put in the effort to find less well known acts.

while i disagree with your views about michael jackson he was vastly over rated and no amount of charity work can justify calling child abuse crap. there are some good musicians around today .. to name only three there is k t tunstall, sheryl crow and katie melua all of who play a variety of proper instruments rather than electronic drum and base.

Hi, i can relate, i'm 17, male, and a drummer. I hate modern music, but i do like heavy metal, like Cradle of Filth, i do like pop, like t.A.T.u, i like hip hop like Insane Clown Posse (don't judge) i like classic Beethoven, and i like instrumental Akira Yamaoka. Listen to Promise by Akira Yamaoka, its one of the greatest instrumental songs of our time, seriously. I like a lot of things really. I also like stuff like the housemartins and human league, but they're old. To be honest, the reason why i think music is crap now, is because there are too many issues in the world at one time, to much fighting, too much politics, not enough money, and no one to care. its depressing, but i just play music, and it gets me through life so hey :) I hope it helps, but seriously though, listen to Promise, its awesome.

every one these days is to wrapped up in the idea of becoming famous. they try to be something they are not because it is seen as the "in" thing to do. MJ was an individual. he started a whole new are and did things that no one had done before.

look at what society is doing to the music industry. too much pressure to make money these days.

Why do you people keep asking stuff like this?

Michael Jackson was actually crap, so that isn't a good example. There are many good bands that still sing good stuff...

Metallica,Rise Against,Foo Fighters,Bon Jovi, Rancid etc..

Simple answer... todays society is all about money.

For (most) bands or artists its all about selling another cookie cutter song to buy them a new Ferrari.

Sorry to say but the love of playing music for the sake of loving it has become a minority. It will return, but how long it takes is anyones guess.

Everyones entitled to an opinion even people like you who overgeneralise.

Like every generation there is good music and bad music.

Because you're getting old.

When you have kids, you will hate their music too. Just like your great-grandparents hated the Beatles and Elvis records that your grandpa and grandma liked, and the reason your grandpa and grandma hated the heavy metal your parents listened to and called it "garbage"

It's a generational thing.
