Ok i have remo pinstripes on my batter head and still have the original yamaha batter 188's (they are resonant heads) that came with my drum kit. Ive had the kit for 2 years now and must have tuned the resonant heads once, barely. I was just wondering if 1) I should change the head (the sound i get is ok...could be a little better) 2) If i have to change the heads which ones would you recommend 3) should i be tuning them more often??

Ok now that you have cleared that up I would recommend ANY single ply clear head, by either evans, Remo, or Aquarian, all of them get the job done, about 15 bucks, maybe not that expensive, and all sound really nice depending on how you tune them. As far as how often, you should tune them everytime you tune your batter heads to insure the most coresponding sound so that they compliment each other, because nothing sound worse than a low tuned batter head with a tight tight tight resonant. Good luck hope this helps!

1.) Yes if you want better sound, change the drumheads. The ones that come with the set are most likely crap.

2.) I just changed all my drumheads and I used EC Resonant drumheads on the bottoms of my drums and it made a big difference.

3.) Yes if you want your set sounding good you should be tuning them more often. Sometimes if the head is tuned too tight you can stretch it over time and ruin it. Also if it's too lose then your drumsticks may damage it, but that most likely won't happen. Other than the safety of your drumheads, you don't really need to tune them that often. If you want to maintain a good sound, then yes you must tune them frequently because they do go out of tune over time. I'd say once a month maybe? I tune mine like every 2 months, but I don't play live or mic up so, it's just for fun.

I'd say to try out some drumheads at guitarcenter or watch videos on youtube, find out what you like. And buy them. Especially thos resonant heads. They make a big difference, unless you leave it out of tune, there's no point.

Try taking them off and completely tuning them again. I know it's a bi**h, but it could work. If that doesn't just go ahead and buy some new ones. Drum heads are reasonably cheap depending on your budget. You should also tune them more often than once in 2 years as well. I replaced all my Toms and my base drum heads with aquarian brand and they've worked great. If you play with a crappy sounding kit you won't get much better.
