If you mean performers I've actually seen live in person, I'd say these:

Guitarists: Allan Holdsworth, Alex Lifeson

Drummers: Neil Peart

Bassists: Geddy Lee, Sting

Here are some of my other favorites in each category:

Guitarists: Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Roine Stolt, Steve Howe

Drummers: Mike Portnoy, Tre Cool, Keith Moon, John Bonham

Bassists: Tony Levin, Flea, Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius

I just thought of another really amazing guitarist I saw live once, but I don't know his name. He was performing at a bar in San Francisco with a blues singer named Leah Tysse. I don't think he's a regular member of her band, because he isn't in the picture on her web page. Anyway, he was so good people were applauding in the middle of his solos. He was playing such hot licks, the audience couldn't wait until the end of the solo to applaud. He was equally good on the saxophone. It just goes to show that not all of the most brilliant musicians have been discovered. There are people as good as or better than the superstars, but they just haven't gotten that big break.

Neil Boshart is the best I can come up with.

Drummer: Travis Barker

Bassist: Garret Tierney

I once saw Ron Jarzombek play with his brother, but this wasn't Spastic Ink. I forget what it was but Jarzombek is a mad scientist when it comes to guitar playing. Close second would be Alex Sklonick, after recommending the Alex Skolnick trio to a Testament fan and getting the tickets to see them. His playing reminded me of an early Al Di Meola.

Best drummer... I caught a Cynic show herein the city last year, and Sean Reinart was still as good as his performances on Focus and Human. Though they should've played more songs off their first album.

Best bassist I've seen was Les Claypool. Their drummer is good too, I think he played with Possessed a long time ago.

Phatzwave: Is Rob Wasserman related to Ron Wasserman? The guy who did the score for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers?

Has to be Carlos Santana. Many years ago we had front gallery seats, just left of stage, and at 8:00pm the Announcer said "Ladies and Gentlemen- Santana" No support like it said on the Tickets, just straight into the Man! Finished at around 11:00. 3 hours of Heaven

Drummer- Keith Moon

Bassist- John Entwistle

Obviously ''best'' is different to each person, although a die hard Frusciante/RHCP fan i wouldn't call him the best.

He's most certainly a very very talented guitarist but i'd more call him a musician/artist over just one specific title (ie guitarist).

Rory Gallagher is a notoriously underrated yet highly influential & extremely talented guitarist who was well respected by the guitar community of his time, was famous for relying on just guitar & amps to create his sounds. Heres quotes + links

Rory Gallagher- Too Much Alcohol (acoustic slide VERY catchy)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1zsRRt1FWE

Rory Gallagher- Walk On Hot Coals (ROCK, the 5+ minute solo isn't as good as the ''irish tour'' solo, but jesus christ this rules & it highlights the bands chemistry + excuse the bad sound quality on the lyrics & bass)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=709KHLppvOM

''Rory's death really upset me. I heard about it just before we went on stage, and it put a damper on the evening'' Jimmy Page (Led Zep)

“ One of the things that was crucial for me I got from Rory Gallagher, which was the idea of, like, being a guitar player for life and living it '' Johnny Marr (The Smiths)

''The man who got me back into the blues'' -Eric Clapton (Yardbirds Cream etc)

always the same guy, never wanted to be starry just wanted to play music, the purest kind of musician he was. And i dont know if this sounds Corny or whatever but its the absolute truth- i never met anybody like him- Never. he taught me humility & dedication & reinforced my belief that this (guitarist) really was a proper job.... i owe him my sound'' - Brian May (Queen)

Bassist: Vic Wooten, Reggie Mcbride or Flea but obviously the ''hendrix'' of bass is Jaco. They're just 3 bassists i happen to enjoy listening to their works.

Drummer: don't know much of drummers i do know that Keith Moon & Barker are insanely talented though.

DRUMMER: Dave Grohl (I prefer his Nirvana work, though), Pete Parada

If you're talking about having seen in person, I'd have to go with Richard Thompson for guitar, Neil Peart for drums and Geddy Lee for bass.

If you're asking for best regardless of having seen them live, I'd keep RT for guitar, or maybe Danny Gatton, but go with Stewart Copeland for drums and Victor Wooten for bass...
