R&P: How diverse is your taste in music?

All of the music I listen to is basically from the same era, the 60's 70's 80's and SOME 90's. The only modern song on my iPod is "Soul Sister"- Train

The genres on my iPod are:

Rock (basically classic rock artists, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Beatles, Pearl Jam, Clapton, CSN&Y Rolling Stones, The Dead, Soundgarden etc..)

Pop (Elton John and Carole King)

Alternative & Punk (The Toadies)

R & B (The Jackson 5)

Metal (Black Sabbath)

BQ1: Uh, sure...

BQ2: Country

BQ3: are those song lyrics?

BQ4: No, I LOVe music, but I can't carry a tune for my life and I can't keep a beat! I play the Kazoo (horribly)

I'd say I'm diverse, but I do tend to stick mostly to a particular sound. I'm a big fan of Classic Rock, from the more psychedelic stuff (Led Zeppelin, The Jimi Hendrix Experience), to the more harder and faster stuff, (AC/DC, Motorhead).

I'm also a big fan of old school Punk like The Clash, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc, etc. And I've delved into Metal a bit with Metallica.

I do honestly think that most modern Music is crap because Music is made with instruments and not computers, and modern Pop Music tends to promote things like Hyper-sexulization, shallowness, disrespecting women, drugs, etc. I do find the occasional gem in modern music where the artists still use instruments to make Music, (Muse, Gorillaz).

Also Flogging Molly is one of my favorite band, I think they fall into the Punk category.

BA1 : Wat.

BA2 : Modern Pop - Gangster Rap

BA3 : Not if you're good at it.

BA4 : I'd like to learn Bass.

Art Rock/Experimental Rock/Progressive Rock (Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Velvet Underground)

Classical Rock (Beatles, The Who, Moody Blues, a whole bunch more)

Hip Hop/Rap (yeah I know, no way) (Outkast, Eminem, Ludacris)

Blues (Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Muddy Waters)

Metal (Dream Theater)

Pop (Katy Perry, Lady Gaga)

Reggae (Bob Marley)

Orchestral (Beethoven, Phillip Glass)

This is of course, partly made out of things I listen to on a daily basis and partly of things I listen to every once in a while. In addition, many of these artists (and for some, I use "artist" very loosely) experiment with other genres in some of their songs, which I absolutely love.

BQ1: No homo. And this better not me a song lyrics :P

Somewhat diverse. I predominantly listen to Hard Rock/Heavy Metal but I've branched out into other genres like Reggae and Jazz Pop. Granted it's only 1-2 artists like Damian Marley or Norah Jones but I still enjoy them a great deal.

I'm pretty sure almost everyone thinks that their taste is diverse, because they listen to virtually every genre that they're aware of, except the ones that suck, like y'know, rap and country and R&B and techno and p*ssy indie sh*t.

I mean, people have listed like twenty different genres or artists designed to show diversity, and none of them really get more than a step outside of rock.

This is all the music I've rated on RYM (a lot of it that I don't own is cataloged as owned, but ignore that): http://rateyourmusic.com/~RodrickRamrod

my music is not very diverse. i dont see why anybody would listen to anything but metal. it is the most exciting, powerful, motivational music there is. it is the best by far. all this new rock music and different genres of rock owe it all to metal going back to the late 60's. metal started it all. that's a fact. most of the rock/pop/country stars today say they were influenced by ozzy, hair metal, led zeppelin, aerosmith or some other hard rock band.

In the scheme of things probably not too diverse. I need to make a real effort to explore music from outside the Western world and its influence. This seems a pretty daunting task, I have a few starting places chosen though.
