When you think about it, you can look at most artists/groups, and see that most of them were kind of a flash in the pan, they had one or two hit singles and then kind of faded away/pushed off the stage, or the music trend they were pandering to went out of popularity.

There are some that last for years, usually because they're multitalented, good singers, good songwriters, multiinstrumental, they evolve with the times, stay relevant, etc. (Bob Dylan or Tom Petty for example) or they just reach a kind of iconic status that just changes the music industry and has an impact for years (Elvis Presley for example)

Considering that, when you think about today's popular musicians, who do you see as really having some staying power? And by that I mean with their music, you could say Britney Spears has lasted a while, but its been her personal life more than her music that has gotten the most attention.

Quite honestly, I think that artists whose names become a brand last the longest. Beyonce for example is not only a succesful singer, but she is a brand. House of Dereon, her fragrance line, movies, etc. have all secured her place as an artist that will have longevity.

Mariah Carey, though a little spacy at times, has a very well informed team working on her behalf to make her succesful as well. In fact, she has recently surpassed Elvis Prestley's record for the most number 1 hits. I think that an artist who sticks around for a long time has the ability to evolve. There are many very talented artists who fade away. Those who stick around are very well differentiated and fill a niche. I also think that promotion has a lot to do with how long your music industry career lasts. One of the gripes that Janet Jackson had with her label was that they didn't promote her album well (when obviously..no one wanted it) but it does play into how long an artist sticks around. And finally, it isn't what you know, but who you know. Many artists just align themselves with people who can best ensure their long term success.

They rose to the highest of the punk global, which used to be the following gigantic style after the brand new rock and roll companies have been simply promote outs with lovely faces and hair. And then they challenged what punk, nay, ANY wellknown track rather would be with 'London Calling'. They sorta killed rock and roll and punk (sorta kinda), however rather spread out the complete enterprise, and confirmed them that a organization attempting new matters would nonetheless promote. I imply, The Beatles and Dylan are larger, however The Clash made extra of a contribution to the ENTIRE track scene, exceptionally modern, in which bands are allowed to exist underneath the shadows and make anything type of list they wish. If it wasn't for The Clash and 'London Calling', they quite often could not do this as good as they do in these days. (Radiohead additionally kinda invented the complete indie scene, however they are no longer rather a conventional band but.) Their slick manufacturer of brit rock has inspired many predominant artists comparable to coldplay, travis and snow patrol (all first-rate bands). But Radiohead is specified in its possess approach and has lots of first-rate albums to again it up, the excellent of them being the bends and adequate pc, with Hail to the Thief coming in a near 3rd. Probably the finest Radiohead music is Street Spirit (Fade Out) on The Bends; it has a first-rate, practical riff in the course of the music and Thom Yorke's vocals are best. Other first-rate songs incorporate Fake Plastic Trees, High and Dry, Airbag, Paranoid Android, Let Down, Karma Police, No Surprises, Knives Out, two+two=five (The Lukewarm), There There (The Boney King of Nowhere), and The National Anthem.

I'm not a huge fan of any of these bands, but I think bands like Coldplay and Maroon 5 are gonna stay around, or at least I hope they do, they're pretty much the best we've got at this point. Hell, they're better than Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance!

Arctic Monkeys are on course because of the way they have evolved as a band by changing their sound with each album yet consistently being successful(all 5 albums No.1). All they need is now is more longevity.

Rage Against The Machine

Foo Fighters

The White Stripes

I like these guys, it's easy to see they don't make music just to make money off of it. All of them have some serious talent and put feeling into their lyrics. Not like all this Tokio At The Chemical Boy crap that's been floating around lately.

Fall Out Boy

a lot of people like them and they've been around long enough

they might last a few more years but after Pete and ashlee start having kids and stuff like that they'll break apart and end up breaking up

there arent too many bands that will last long b/c their music will get old and eventually boring (event to the people who are in love with that band)

I think maybe coldplay are the last of the "new breed" like really, all others sing about junk, bob dylan etc sang about real stuff, politics, war, drug abuse not some ho (woman) pimp (fugly insecure guy) and other words I can't even understand. greenday maybe as well

just my opinion
