Question:
Something rattling around in my Marshall Head?

My Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 valve head has something that sounds like it's rattling around inside the amp when I move it.

The amp plays fine, but it also looks like there may be some tubes actually not inside the head.

This is my first tube head so I really have no idea what's going on. If anyone could help me it out would be greatly appreciated.

Also the tubes don't get purple or look like they are about to explode (to my knowledge) when I play. They stay at orange as far as I know.

If there is a spring reverb in there that could be doing it. I had a Mesa Boogie that made kind of rattling noise--it was the reverb tank. I'm pretty sure the tubes are supposed to be orange.

My first thought was that a tube came loose and was moving around- that would be an easy fix. You are going to have to take the back off and look inside. You have 3 12AX7's (preamp tubes) and 4 EL34's (power tubes). You can change/install tubes yourself, just make sure the amp is unplugged and your hands are clean. The EL34's are generally bigger than the 12AX7's. You can order JJ tubes (the best) from www.eurotubes.com. If thats not it, you may want to take it to a tech- it could be a pot or a number of other things.

I even have 4 guitars. a decrease priced Silvertone which i'm coming up a stencil for on the 2d (giving it a unwell paint job later), which I by no ability use, an previous Fender Gemini II for my acoustic, a Jackson King V i take advantage of for bigger tunings, and then a PRS SE custom 24 for Drop B. I only have a Line 6 Spider amp, it is small, in spite of the undeniable fact that it is all i choose on the 2d. large settings, it is lots of relaxing to play around with. i'm hoping to get a Marshall amp quickly =) Silvertone and the Jackson the two have .10 Elixir strings on them, and the PRS has .12-60 DDTs. by no ability replaced the pickups, all of them have inventory areas in that experience. enjoying for virtually a twelve months now =)

Crazy, I have the exact same amp model and the exact same problem. Unfortunately, it's my first tube head also. Does it sound a bit like a spring rattling?

Also, does your head seem to get unnaturally hot?

If you find a solution for this, please let me know! I can't afford to take it into a shop and i don't really want to start tinkering with it myself as I'm not sure what i'm doing.

if it has reverb than it's the reverb coil. It sounds like a spring bouncing around in a metal case?
