in january, royal mail is issuing a set of stamps depicting 'classic' album covers - write to your friends with your favourite disc on the envelope.

what do you think?
which is your favourite?
what shouldn't be there?
what other albums should be honoured in this way?

(btw, the beatles were recognised in 2007: http://www.norvic-philatelics.co.uk/2007/01-beatles.htm

bq: what's your favourite mail-related tune?

Well I think that it's a pretty novel idea.

My favourite, well, I just can't go beyond Peter Saville's cover idea for P,C&L as it was genius (although I do think Technique was the best NO cover), but there is always a special place in my heart for Parklife, London Calling and Screamadelica.

Well, I can't really see the point of the Divisional Bell tbh, it's neither a great album or iconic album art in my book.

I so think the Pollockesque cover of The Stone Roses self-titled really should be on a stamp. Also, even though I think it is Dire Straits' worst album, Brothers In Arms would be a good pick.

BQ: It's probably not my favourite if I really thought about it, but "Letter To Elise" by The Cure is really all I can be bothered extending my brain to.

Afternoon Captain :)

I read about this in the paper a few weeks ago, and was *very* pleased to see the inclusion of a certain album cover. I used to collect stamps, mostly First-Day Covers, but now I just collect used stamps for charity.

1) I think it's a great idea, and they should do it again, but maybe focusing on just one era or decade of music.

2) "Tubular Bells" ; "The Division Bell" (love the image)

{must be something about bells...}

3) "Parklife" ; "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" ; "Power, Corruption and Lies"

There is nothing iconic or artistic about those 3 covers. Not sure about "Screamadelica" ~ it makes me think of some sort of big-eyed spider-bug!

4) Fleetwood Mac ~ "Rumours" ; "Tango in the Night"

Meat Loaf ~ "Bat Out of Hell"

Pink Floyd ~ "The Dark Side of the Moon" ; "Wish You Were Here"

Mellow Candle ~ "Swaddling Songs"

Blackmore's Night ~ "Ghost of a Rose"

Stevie Nicks ~ "Bella Donna" {it's a parallell of "Rumours"}

Cool. Screamadelica looks kickass on a stamp.

Favorite album is London Calling, favorite stamp is Screamadelica.

Why is The Division Bell there? Even Pink Floyd fans don't like it.

Unknown Pleasures needs a stamp.

That's really nice. I'm guessing that the reason they went with Division Bell is some Roger Waters related issue? I'm a fan of the New Order one.

I think Hotel California has got to be one of the greatest album covers of all time. They're probably not going to go with any American ones, are they?
