For me it's been :
5) Losfer Words (Big 'Orrah) - Iron Maiden
4) Call of Ktulu - Metallica
3) Orion - Metallica
2) Voice of the Soul - Death
And until recently my number 2 was my number 1. But then I finally completed the discography for one of my newer favorite bands, and came across this gem, which at least for now, is getting steady replay
1) the Cruel Sea - Primordial
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DZ--RjgRx3FA&v=Z--RjgRx3FA&gl=US

Very emotive, and evocative of old folk music, making me think of a eulogy to sailors lost.

So.... what are your contenders?

Mq2: opinion of the Cruel Sea?

Mq3: big fan of instrumentals, or do you consider most "throw away" stuff?

Bq:speaking ot the cruel sea... do you like/love the ocean, fear it, think its nice to go to the beach, or hate it or what?

Losfer Words - Iron Maiden

Call of Ktulu - Metallica

Voice of the Soul - Death

Thrash Attack - Destruction

The Ultra Violence - Death Angel

MA2: #6 on my list. It should be part of the score of a blockbuster

MA3: Huge fan. I like them better than most songs that include vocals.

BA: I've lived over half my life near the sea, and I miss it more than I can express. The beach, not so much. Sand in my car gets on my nerves. I like marinas, piers, sailing, deep sea fishing and rocky/shell beaches. I also like exploring the brackish waters of inlet rivers.

1 The Call Of Ktulu - Metallica

2 Orion - Metallica

3 March Into The Sea - Pelican

4 The Ultra-Violence - Death Angel

5 The Ides of March - Iron Maiden

MA2: Great song, I really liked it

MA3: HUGE fan, Joe Satriani's first two albums for example, are among my all time favorites

BA: It's beautiful, but frightening

Iron Maiden and Metallica are amazing!!!

But I prefer Number of the beast! All by I.M. are pretty great though!

As well as for Metallica!

And I couldn't choose a top 5 favorite songs/bands of metal. Alot are great!

But I can list a few bands I like that may interest you[:

(May not specically occur to be metal)

Iron Maiden and Metallica of course.

Dio

Pink Floyd

Led Zeppelin

ACDC

Queen

Job for a Cowboy

Cannibal Corps

Megadeth

^^^^^^^^^^You know; things of that nature(expression).

And I'm not much for the beach, just the ocean. I don't really care for the sand. I love the ocean. The water. The sea.

Long time no see KP.

IN NO ORDER:

Transylvania- maiden

Orion- metallica

Into the lungs of hell- megadeth

Call of ktulu- metallica

The crying Orc- burzum (if that counts. If not than I'll choose losfer words (big orra) by maiden)

Bq: can't listen to them right now, will later though.

Bq2: sometimes, I dont even notie if a song is an instrumental. They're cool though.

Bq3: once a year for the beach is good. I think it's boring, and I live pretty close to a number of beaches, and my family always wants to go.

Good morning KP :)

You know I'm not big on Metal, so sorry if this is a short random list!

'The Hawk of Achill' ~ Harvestman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cClNr5W-ijk&fmt=18

'Weiss Heim' ~ Rainbow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H34-ACGymMc&fmt=18

{not sure this track could be termed 'Metal', but...}

'Laguna Sunrise' ~ Black Sabbath

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psm13jUwULo&fmt=18

{again, the track isn't really Metal, but the band is!}

'Amongst the Heather' ~ Harvestman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIigJ21Om8I&fmt=18

MQ2: I've been listening as I type...

Great intro, very like Harvestman. Actually, it's all quite like Harvestman...

MQ3: It really depends. Most of the Harvestman {Steve Von Til} stuff is instrumental, with maybe one lyric thrown in. Remember KP, I'm a great Mike Oldfield fan, so I do love instrumentals - it's just that I know very few within Metal!

BQ: I like the sea, for its calming effect and beauty, and I'd be quite happy to take a lot of walks beside it {add in streams and rivers there}. But I've not been to the beach since childhood, and it's not the best place for redheads - we burn instead of tanning!

On a side note, I do have a great fear of drowning, but I'm not averse to a nice paddle in the waves! I offer up a song that says it all for me:

'Three Women and the Sea' ~ Inkubus Sukkubus

damn you KP! You took my number one!

5: All the Cold - Kingdom of Snow

4: Darkane - Intro to Rusted Angel (that count?)

3: Agalloch - A Celebration for the Death of Man

2: Castrum - Tears of Piano

1: Primordial - the Cruel Sea

MA2: Absolutely love it! the band who made it possible for me to listen to BM about 15 years ago.

MA3: The biggest :) Although, there are a few too many ordinary ones...

BA: I like going to the beach, but I'm not a very strong swimmer, so I don't swim in the ocean too often.
Speak English Or Die!

1. The Ultra Violence- Death Angel

2. Flotzilla- Flotsam & Jetsam

3. Genghis Khan- Iron Maiden

4. Orion- Metallica

5. Intro To Reality- Anthrax

MQ2: Sounds pretty cool

MQ3: Instrumentals are great. I prefer songs with vocals but I love albums with instrumentals on them.

BQ: Ive only actually been in the ocean a few times. I dont fear it I'm just not really a beach person.

In rough order...

5) Transylvania - Iron Maiden (it's not too complex or emotional, but damn, it's fun to play)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY0RZriJ3gk

4) Descent - Neurosis (they've done much better, but the bagpipes just really made it great)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7zYZ-gXyAA

3) The Call Of Cthulhu - Metallica

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWGOEWdV13M

2) Autumn Into Summer - Pelican

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPX9mHd0grM

1) Altered Course - Isis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_HnS5k_sew

I have to say I'm just not a huge fan of Voice Of The Soul - I feel it completely disrupts the momentum in TSOP, and the mixing of the guitars is way too uneven. The electric more or less drowns out the acoustic, and in turn, some of the emotion.

MQ2: Can't say I liked it much, honestly. It didn't really do anything to grab my attention, though the mix of instruments was interesting. I'll have to vote 'Meh'.

MQ3: Post-rock, yes. From your average metal band? Most are throw away.

BQ: I love it, everything about it.
