I've found that some people have immense respect for Yes and see them as the quintessential prog band and I've heard many people push them aside as nonsense mediocre drivel.

So which comes to mind when you think of Yes? And how much of Yes' material do you know? And if you don't mind, state your age (or around your age)

TOTAL F*CKING AWESOMENESS!!!!!!

They most assuredly ARE the Best Prog Band (Besides Pink Floyd) in the History of Prog. No one else can touch their Musicianship, song intricacy, or songwriting skill BUT pink Floyd. And certainly no other Prog band can match their level of consistent excellence over as many years.

I am (As You know 41) and I own every single Yes Album ever released. Every single Asia album ever released and many many albums of Solo material from Yes member

*Edit*

Your damn right Your Answer is gone You little *****!

*Edit 2*

Sorry for the now removed Tirade but what EmoScene said was way way way out of line. Hope I didn't offend but I got peeved.

*Edit3*

Austin, sorry again but xxXEmoSceneXxx had a reply up here that was personally offensive towards Sarah in the extreme and it flew all over me. That why I put out the Flamedart. I removed it though since His horribly nasty answer was removed.

*Edit 4..lol*

Your welcome Sarah, that's what friends are for. I thought it best to remove the flamelance though before I got reporthammered.

While their recent material seems rather weak, and some of the album-side-length compositions tended to be more overindulgent (e.g. Topographic Oceans & Relayer) than groundbreaking, I've pretty much been a Yes fan for about 37 years (that should give you some clue towards my age....) I've seen them live at Great Woods (open-air venue south of Boston) and they were terrific. Jon Anderson's voice is still so remarkably flexible; Chris Squire's bass sound was HUGE and he still plays great riffs, and Steve Howe is a guitarist's guitarist. My fave Yes albums are The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Yessongs, Going For The One, Drama (flawed, but grossly underrated), 90125, and I like various tunes from most of their other albums - picked up the YesYears 4 CD set to cover some of those.

i am 24 and very familiar with Yes' catalog. Relayer is my favorite album, although i dont recognize it as their best. i think they pushed the envelope of rock music and we should all show them as much respect as other classic rock acts.

Edit: Sarah, if it wasnt for you, i feel as if nobody would listen to progressive.....

Edit: Sarah, I will be purchasing a Porcupine Tree album based on your persistent love for them. mind telling me what i should get?

Edit: is that like a rare album, or what? i cant find it on emusic or itunes. well, whatever the case i will try one of the three you suggested first. the more recent stuff i can hold off on, im a big fan of a bands progression.

It reminds of the smelly kid with a super greasy fro that used to sit in front of me in my Latin class when I was a sophomore. He used to wear a Yes shirt at least 3 days a week to school. I once asked him who or what Yes was, and he rudely snapped back at me, "Only one of the greatest bands ever." Although thoroughly turned off by his response and body odor, I did go home and listen to them. Really weren't my kind of music, but then again, at the time I was listening to Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, etc. I might just go take another listen now that you've mentioned them.

Hi Sarah!

I have actually never listened to Yes. Sad isn't it? But some compare them to Rush, so I might give them a listen. (I'm 24)

LOL!! I figured you would! Your the greatest!!

Edit: Okay I love Heart of The Sunrise!!

I have actually heard Roundabout before and i've always liked it, just didn't know it was Yes!

Some of the greatest musicians ever! I pretty much know all of their material, some of the solo stuff and side projects. Just saw Asia w/Steve Howe--he's just plain awesome.

Epicness. One of the best bands ever for sure. Personally I like them a lot better than Pink Floyd and maybe even King Crimson right now.

I'm with Vapourtrails on this one : although I know *of* Yes, and know that they are regarded as one of the ultimate Prog bands, I've never {as far as I know} heard any of their songs...

Looks like I may have a new addition to that backlogged music queue of mine!

When I think of the band YES, I automatically think of the band Rush because the two will forever be linked in mind as fantastic prog bands.

I don't know why... it's just whenever i think of YES, I think of Rush right after. & then I think of Fonzie...
