what are people's issues with these bands?

other than that they're popular, what do people hate about these bands so much?

Linkin Park
Green Day
along with many others.

I can understand them not being your style, but how exactly are they all terrible?

MQ: Why does Mainstream=terrible to so many of you?

Disturbed and Korn, I personally don't have a problem with per say, I just don't really like there sound. A lot of people regard nu-metal to be an insult to meal.



Linkin Park aren't a metal band, they're hardly even a rock band. Yet they get so much attention from the rock and metal media.



Green Day - Again, incredibly mainstream yet get a lot of attention from the rock media. Claim to be punk and aren't. Most of there fan base is made up of young teenagers, mainly of the female variety.

I haven't listened to Disturbed and Korn, but I can honestly say I enjoy Green Day and Linkin Park's music (mostly earlier though, it seems that both of these bands get worse with every new record). A lot of the time, people just dismiss a band because it is popular or because they have a certain style. (An example would be everyone thinking My Chemical Romance is an emo band just because they wear black, when that isn't true)



I personally try to avoid mainstream music because the truth is, most of it is generic garbage. But, if there's a song I like and it happens to be in the Top 40, that won't stop me from listening to it.

Disturbed - they are not so bad and draiman is a good frontman but they are too much a production rather than actual raw energy, they are very formulaic. they aren't bad live put on a good show.



Korn - They pretty much suck, hate jonathon davis' voice and really boring music, they have a few bearable songs. Absolutely suck live, also they butchered a classic Floyd song so that never goes well in my book.



Linkin Park - once again too much of a production and formulaic, they are there solely to be catchy but they just attempt hook after hook nothing really interesting in their music to me. I guess the new album was different but it sucked for other reasons.



Green Day - I'm just not a fan of the genre they helped create at all, pop punk. Punk was only good back when it had that raw energy in the seventies.



mainstream isn't necessarily terrible for me I like Muse and Mars Volta which I both would consider mainstream bands but most mainstream bands are bad to me these days because I am not a fan of the big genres right now and in recent times such as modern rock, pop punk, indie, nu metal. You go back to the early nineties with the grunge movement and that for me is the last time the mainstream had a lot of good to offer. Bands like Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Jane's Addiction, and Guns N' Roses were great.

I do not think all of these bands are terrible. However, some of these bands are not for me. I do not really enjoy Liinkin Park or Green Day at all. That doesn't mean that someone else doesn't love them. I have no opinion on Korn or Disturbed because I have not heard enough from them to form an opinion about their music.



Music is highly subjective, and who am I to make fun of what someone else likes? Some people do not like my favorite bands, who cares?



Everyone likes something different and that difference is what makes us human. Life would be horribly boring if we all liked the same things



I respect other people's favorite bands, and I hope that others will respect mine.

I have no idea. I don't have a problem with any of those bands. Linkin Park is may favorite band, I occasionally listen to Disturbed and Green Day, and I haven't heard any song by Korn that I like(I've only heard 2), but I still don't hate them at all. I just it's just not what I like, and that's it. Oh yeah and Slipknot should be added to the list.

MQ: I listen to everything I like, no matter how mainstream (or not) it is.

A TON of people on here are just followers. They go along with whatever someone else says, and the cool thing to say now is that all these mainstream bands suck.



It isn't my thing personally, but I can listen to a couple of songs from these bands here and there. I'm just more into classic rock.

I like those bands but I couldn't compare them to older bands like Queen, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, etc who are better than almost all of the bands out today.



M.Q: Rock/punk was different years ago. Most mainstram bands are out for attention and publicity over the things rock stood then.

So alot of people hate bands that are really overrated and couldnt compare to those older bands.

I don't mind Disturbed and Korn (other than I don't like Korn's cover of Another Brick In The Wall Pts 1-3). I own cds by both and like songs from both.



Green Day and Linkin Park I find boring. Granted it doesn't help right now both bands are on heavy air play rotation and I'm guarenteed to hear one or the other when I turn my car radio on. I don't like anything overplayed to death and that included Zep's Stairway to Heaven.



If a band wants to be mainstream that's fine, I find many boring because I think they compromise their artistry for the ability to sell cds and chart. However, that's just my opinion and anyone is welcome to disagree with it.

Korn - I think some people reckon they're just poser metal

Linkin Park - They ruin the rock with loads of simplistic rap

Green day - People think they've changed for the worse, but i don't mind them.



MQ: I like some, select mainstream things, but certainly not all of it. People hate mainstream because it tends to be manufactured, unoriginal and simplistic. Obviously not all of it is like that, but a decent amount of it is sadly.

Some people find that there music/lyrics have no meaning, so they just say that there is no point to even bother listening to them.

Or, for some other bands, if its like only screaming or growling, some people don't think that there are any lyrics, and for those people, look up the lyrics, and at least try and understand what the artists is saying....

Linkin Park:They hardly ever play their own instruments.

Green Day:I like it,but I more into the early 90's Green Day.

i dont understand the automatic hate to all that is mainstream. sometimes they forget that the greatest bands we know are or were mainstream as well. (led zeppelin, beatles, pink floyd, etc)

well i think their all ok except for linkin park and Korn.



Mainstream feels like they dont feel the music. its like its all synchronized.. In the end its for the money, no creativity, the creativity is limited by the industry. dont get me wrong i judge music by the music not the popularity or 'coolness' or whatever... in the end it goes down to taste.



But, there are so many Mainstream bands which are Brilliantt.

to be honest disturbed are not every ones cup of tea coz there lyrics and they only have a cuople of good songs

mainstream does not bother me at all. i really have a strong opinion on people who think that any mainstream band sucks. theyre all morons who are all very close minded.





and to answer your question i honestly have to say that i think the reason some of those bands are disliked is because alot of people like them so people who wana seem "cool" are going to say they dont like them, even if they do.

eco-friendly Day is aiming to launch a sparkling album sometime in 2008, they have not somewhat been greater particular aside from the reality that they have got had to evaluate which of 40 six songs to checklist on the album. in any different case I even have definitely no concept.

But to answer - many people think mainstream=terrible because it isn't original, unique, special, or all that creative. It's kind of like regurgitating the same music over and over again.



I know it's all unoriginal crap. But there hasn't been anything original since the 80's. And I still like it anyway.

There is really nothing the matter with any of those bands they are just different. Personally, I really like all those bands. It is just what's in like pop singers and stuff. A lot of like main stream people or whatever just don't like things or people that are different.

Disturbed- I haven't listened to them enough to have an opinion



Korn- I have a few Korn albums I like. For me they're kinda like the Star Trek movies- every other one is good.



Linkin Park- They are the Boy Band of metal. Plain, uninspired music.



Green Day- Just never did anything for me.



MQ-Because usually it is. For the masses, music needs to fit into certain parameters- 4 minutes long, catchy riffs, a hook and cookie-cutter lyrics. For the most part it's very unimaginative.

well with Green Day people think that they sold out because they went to a more "mainstream" label. But Green Day just grew up and don't sing songs just about masturbation and doing drugs anymore.

Disturbed and Korn, I have no problem with.

Linkin Park used to be really good, I enjoyed their first couple albums, but now the music they have been putting out is more like "pop" than what they started with.

Also with Green Day, I used to like their music but now it seems like they have been getting way too political in their songs than needed. I still listen to them if they are on the radio but I don't intentionally put in their album to listen to.

Disturbed only has like three catchy songs, and there vocals suck.

Korn is ok. They are pretty overrated, but they ain't baddd.

Linkin Park was always a good band, they still are.
