Michael Buble covering Mrs. Jones, Always On My Mind& Him feat. Kelly (from Destiny's Child) on How Deep Is Your Love are all Amazing, like Boyz II Men covering Got To Be There, Time after Time, When I Fall In Love w/Michael Buble again:)... or J*Mayer's covers of Hendrix Bold As Love, HumaNature, & Freefalling:).. Music is Amazing& if an artist can recapture that Magic then that's whatsup& honorable mention is Celine Dion covering Luther Dance w/My Father, Stevie& Beyonce covering So Amazing, Pac being inspired by M*J's TDCAU to write They Don't Give A F*** About Us:)... All that is just wow:)

Several of my favourite songs have been covered, sometimes well, sometimes terribly!

BQ: Random choice:

'Gold Dust Woman' ~ Fleetwood Mac

Great cover = Sister Hazel

Hideous cover = Hole

BQ2: I'd love Blackmore's Night to cover Fleetwood Mac's 'Sisters of the Moon'

It's fine with me. One more chance for people to discover the original, even if the cover version stinks.

And indeed, some covers beat the original.

BQ: Hmmm. Hard to pick one.

BQ2: How about a cover of "Get Thy Bearings" by Donovan? King Crimson has a good one, but I want another.

I'm not usually keen on cover versions although there are a few that I have liked and one I liked better than the original.

My favourite song of all time has been covered by many, and has in my opinion been ruined by them all

depends who covered, and for what reason. My favorite song is "Give it to me baby" by Rick James, and if the black eyed peas decided to cover it because, lets say "funk/soul became popular again", I would by p'oed. They already covered another funk song I love called knee deep (B.E.P's called theirs"shut the phunk up...") and their version is just some wacky vocals over the the original. one thing about the current state of pop music is that they would/do mostly suck at covering anothing that has an soul or rythm in it, versus the computerized repetive autotone style of today. so if they tried to copy my Rick James song they'd probably fail, or they'd just sample the epic bass and use it for their own selfish reasons of having a 'hit song'

if someone up to it covered it, like Prince, i'd find it interesting. or other capable people. but no one like Kanye, Chris Brown, etc..none of that crap..specially not BEP's, they are p'oing me off especially lately.

as for BQ2, I can't think of one off the top of my head but..yeah there is probably one out there. I obviously don't like smpling/coveres that much, though, 'specially when people keep covering/sampling styles of music when they make a small re-surgence of popularity.

BQ: Well, i have lots of favorite songs, but my favorite right now is probably Bright Lights by Matchbox Twenty. It was covered by Kris Allen on the American Idol tour last year. I saw it on youtube and i thought it was really awful.

BQ: I wish someone would cover You Don't Understand Me by the Raconteurs. It's such a killer song.

I love to hear covers of songs I like. I'm always eager to hear good covers of good songs. However, some covers are not at all satisfactory.

For example, Nickelback's cover of "Super Bon Bon" by Soul Coughing (a great song) was as good as you would expect. Hahaha.

If it was done well, then it'd be cool. But if not, then bad.

BQ: Yes, but it was terrible, basically some acoustic guy just stole the lyrics and put it to some boring acoustic track

BQ2: 43% Burnt is my favorite song, it's the one i said above, i'd like to see a decent band covering it and doing it well.

Depends who covers it!! Vogue is too legendary to be covered though.. except by us ;)

BQ: Yeah, by us... And Rihanna did a live cover of it, I thought it was pretty good

BQ2: We should cover Baby by Justin Bieber. But we should sing it about Hatter and Ed. We shall talk about it on Formspring yes?

At the edge of the Wood - Dead Meadow

Depends on who by, i could either be mildly satisfied or pissed

BQ: no

BQ: Sort of - Silversun Pickups

EDIT:

@ shot gun, well heres a reason for you

if someone were to do a horrable cover of my favorite song, it would ruin it for me, and i'd never be able to listen to the song the same way again => me pissed

I can't imagine any reason not to want your favorite song covered. (The essence of a cover song is less meaningful in the realm of folk music, where there's much less emphasis on original composition, and everything is passed down. To that end, it would be wrong to describe plenty of my favorite songs as covers, or say that they have cover versions, even if multiple artists play them, and all do a damn fine job of it.)

Bridge: Really? It's not like the cover would suddenly make you realize how bad the composition is, is it?

I think that's really interesting, if it's true (not trying to imply it's not true - it's just curious to me.)

Was what I said really that offensive?
2010-10-19 20:56:52 UTC
It can't be covered. No, seriously... Plus, I don't think anyone could pull it off, not that they'd try...

BQ: No.

BQ: Pink Floyd - Let There Be More Light.

I wouldn't mind, it just means an artist appreciates the music as much as I do.
