Question:
Musicians Post Your Projects?
2009-12-01 09:24:18 UTC
As part of a recent effort on my part to get the musicians from R&P to record and share their work, I have started a monthly post for musicians. Look for one of these questions on the first of each month.

here are some of my recordings for the month:

MQ: Musicians: would you post some of your current projects?

Everyone else: would you mind having a listen and offering any constructive criticism?

well, i have decided to put off reducing men to tears because it's been a busy semester

but here is what i just finished

http://www.myspace.com/ghosthorsesridetonight

it's what all the kids are talking about in columbus

i recommend you listen to 'lost in the woods', that is the only song in which i am in my element, no pianos on top of pianos for this album, im not much of a guitarist or a vocalist, but that's really all there is to this stuff

if you are interested in the guitar sound which was really the only reason i bothered to put these songs together, it's a sort of out of shape guitar with a sorry input plugged into a karaoke machine

wildflowers-

that was really fun which is a great thing to have by my estimation

then it got really serious and i thought it was very charming, maybe not the correct word but thats what i thought

if youre the one singing then i like your voice a lot

Hi Wire. Everyone.

http://www.myspace.com/themodernweapons

New songs for the month are "The Usual Way," "Under/Moments" and "Blind Folk."

Oh yeah, "The Usual Way" sounds sort of similar to the riff in "Pablo Picasso" by The Modern Lovers (no relation). That was unintentional.

The vocals really f*ck all of mine up. Among other things, maybe.

---------------------------------

Wire and String, you are lo-fi 21st century bluesman Brian Wilson. It's all wonderful wonderful wonderful.

--------------------------------

Hi Wildflowers. This is definitely the best stuff I've yet heard from you guys. It all sounds fun as hell, but it's musically solid.

----------------------------------

Maybe no tears, Synthetic, but really good. I like the layers of piano, but it's good that you don't depend on them.

I think your voice is good, especially for this music.

---------------------------------

Jesus, Prof! That's improvised? It's so tight! That's beyond incredible. That must have been one hell of a group. And it would still be a cool song (maybe two or three cool songs), even if it was written beforehand.

Nice demo. A little underwhelming after "Hornets Nest", but still awesome.

-------------------------------

Hey Gibb. ALL CAPS. Heavy. There's sort of a Cramps, psychobilly feel, I think. It's intense. I really dig it. That little drum break in the middle, and when that second guitar (I think) comes in and starts just going at it. It's great.

Hi everyone.

I'm sorry that I have nothing current yet again. I'll just go back to the well and put up this sort of impromptu recorded jam that we that is basically 4 on the fly, unwritten songs that we did in approximately 2001 or 2. Now that I think of it, it was our first practice in this unit, but you'd never guess it. I'm really happy with how it turned out (especially since nothing was written before we strummed the first chord). I'm really proud of it for what it is. Hope you dig it.

or probably the better of the two is this live version of a Seven Live Cobras tune called Sunrise Addict that we did the same night. I think it came out really nicely.

I swear I'll have something new one of these days. I'm hoping to get my garage recording rig back up sometime before the end of January (hopefully a little sooner) and though I've been burned many times before I believe the Robots record will be done (at least all the music) round about February. All I have is an intuition and nothing to support it, but we are feeling very motivated. It's just these recording logistics.

Looking forward to hearing some quality R&P music over lunch. Thanks Wire for posting these. Sorry I never have anything actually new to contribute.

***************

Sorry, I got into thinking about the best tunes of 2009 and hunting through my iTunes over lunch, then the Silver Jews took over. I'm going to give stuff a listen tomorrow though.

Hi Shotgun.

Thanks man. In all fairness, it was the first time using that particular combination of us, but with the incest of local bands and good friends we had all been playing together in different capacities for many years and had all built up a good amount of chemistry. Jon, the singer/lead guitarist is really good on his feet too. Thanks a lot man. I'm glad you liked it. I like to think that when we were good live we were really good. We didn't play live as much as we could have though to really get as tight as we could have been.

Thanks again man. I'm looking forward to hearing your new stuff for the month. I also saw on Myspace that Likegibb put a couple new tracks up that I'm pretty excited to give a listen.

only one this month. id been working on this for about a week, actually trying to make it perfect, and i think it turned out alright. im actually pretty proud of this one, but its not really anything new. i had a lot of garage/surf stuff i was gonna post, but it didnt really turn all that great, so im gonna have to redo most of it.

wire

'the penny song': i like this one, the blues feeling it has, slow and laid-back. i always enjoy the slightly disjointed feel to your stuff. for some reason to me it sounds naked.

'b movies': o man that was really great. the vocals are really cool, as is the percussion. im gonna listen to this one a few more times.

wildflowers

it sounds like you guys are having fun with what youre making, it really shows. yeah, theres something lovely and childlike about the singing.

synthetic

wow i really really like your stuff. its great. 'im sorry i killed your fog' was ummm, oh yeah delicious, and 'can i ride a ghost horse' was beautiful, if i may say, actually i thought all of it was beautiful. haunting stuff, creepy and dark, but wow, great.

PROF

'sunrise addict': lovely tune. it was surprisingly catchy, i wasnt expecting it after hearing the groove it starts in, but it --the chorus?- was pretty catchy. im gonna listen to the rest of everyones stuff and then head into the 12 minute one.

shotgun

your stuffs so out there, i dont even know how to describe it, like its accessible and 'poppy' and everything but is so avant-garde and experimental at the same time. 'under/moments' starts rather nicely, but i kinda lose the vox --maybe thats what you were going for-- but its a great song. 'the usual way': wow i really like the feel to this one and the vocals are my favorite of the three. man your voice is so intimidating, mines thin as paper.

thanks a lot, man, oh yeah about your cassette, my tape player/karaoke machine/cassette eater is messed up, like flashing lights and everything, i havent been able to do anything on tape, so thats why your mailbox has been empty.

Cry Me a River

She wants us to be good but

when you live in the hood you just really cant.

Chorus- youve always got some problems going on with you,

acting like we should care.

I know your my mother and ill love you forever

i have 4 word for you cry me a river (x4)

I should act like I care,

because i know you hurt,

but you really need to stop complainin.

I swear to myself you have to personalitys one is a nice lady,

otherwise its a mean nagging sod that complains about the littlest things.

from catching a movie or hangin with friends you always got an excuse for me.

Chorus 2x
