So I'm 16 and I'm a huge led zeppelin fan my dad not so much so I got in an argument with him because he said my favorite member of zeppelin john bonham (RIP) was replaceable and that the only irreplaceable members were Plante and Page but I think bonham is the greatest drummer of all time and after his death zeppelin broke up so was he really replaceable

Yes but....

I think he could have been replaced with a very good drummer but it wouldn't be as good as it was with John Bonham. His son Jason Bonham did an excellent job at the O2 concert. Mike Lee did a good job with Page and Plant. They could have replaced John Bonham and it would have still been good, in my opinion. But John Bonham still cannot be beat or even matched.

When Phil Collins and Tony Thompson, two good drummers, filled in at Live Aid, the drumming just wasn't right. So not anyone could just fill in either.

I can understand why Led Zeppelin disbanded after John Bonham died.

Let's put it this way...Eventually, as humanity progresses,

it will be discovered that the combination of those four artists

--which culminated Led Zeppelin--became its own phenomenon

to the point that its understanding will have taken decades of

study which will have to be written in structured proofs (chalkboard

style), thereby earning its place in the Table Of Elements.

So, in short, No, John Henry Bonham was not replaceable.

Take a listen to the Page and Plant album 'Walking Into Clarksdale', Both JPJ and Bonham were as much part of the band as Page and Plant. No Led Zep without them.

No Bonham, no Led Zeppelin.

Of course he was not replaceable.

It appears that the remaining band members did not want to go on without him. I saw Led Zeppelin in 1976, it was incredible. 80,000 ppl I was so close and on my boyfrends shoulders taking photos which I still have. They were hugely admired in the 70s in San Francisco bay area. I recall being fairly high when The Song Remains The Same video cane out. Its out of DVD if you don't have it get online and order it!!

You'll LOVE IT!!

He was a good drummer and all. But seriously. If they wanted to keep playing they could have kept going. The last album and the Coda disaster were terrible. They knew it, the record company knew it and the fans knew it.

Ending the band was the best possible decision they could have made once JB died.

I don't mean to toss aspersions, or cast any shade here, but your Dad is *wholesale* incorrect.

No one, NO ONE in that Band was replaceable, and that's all there is to it = End Of Story.

Of course he was, and was not, Its just that at the time of his death LZ was pretty much a spent force anyway, His passing just sealed the deal, Look at The Who. Keith Moon was a big part of that band, when he passed the rest of the band had a lot more in them so they replaced him, cant just stop because a friend dies, You go on and miss them and you continue on the best you can,
