IMO they sound pretty different, as one is post-hardcore and the other is alt-rock.

I don't think you can be blamed mixing 90's crap up, it's all pretty homogenized... Beck has some ok tunes I guess.

Yeah, I get that you like these groups, I just find the 90's repulsive now... it's when pointless "eclecticism" passed for "creativity" worse than ever, surely you can see that trend.

Anyway... I wish I could like the music of recent times more but I think there are reasons we haven't been seeing musicians of the caliber of Miles, Trane, Wonder, Lennon, Wilson, Zappa, Fripp, Eno, Bowie etc. and I'm trying to figure what those reasons are. But that's not to say I hate everything in modern music.
