There is a festival, well many of them, in farm communities, and you never see them have rock n roll bands at their fests. Why is this? But you will always see the local little country band playing. What gives?

I lived in Madras, OR for much of my childhood; little podunk place, I remember when they had a parade down Main street because they hit 2,000 people. You heard country, but a lot of people there also listened to Southern rock like Skynyrd, and the local radio played Zepplin, The Who, Speedwagon, Ted Nugent, Guns N Roses, basically rock, bluesrock, and metal from the 60's to the late 80's. However, I recall trying to tell the local kids how cool Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam etc. were and they'd never heard of them and thought they looked weird (keep in mind this was in 1993, during the height of the grunge scene, and this town was only 300 miles from Seattle and 150 from Portland).

It is true that out in the "country" people listen to more "country" music!

I grew up in a very small town and I can say that, in my esperience, it has alot to do with the high population of religious people in agricultural/rural areas that also contributes to fewer people "rocking out".

Look at where "the Bible Belt is".....and consider where alot of farming communities are in Amercia (and then watch the movie Footloose).....that is pretty much the answer.

I think that the internet age is bringing more rock and metal to the people who want it though...so I think things are getting better.

well im inclined to agree with steve R about tha whole connection to the lifestyle more than any other music, however i listen to everything when im farming from country all the way down to metal, nothing gets more pumped than listening to metal when im cutting hay, but to be honest im the only one i know who listens to this kind of music when farming. but as steve R said it just connects to their lifestyle a bit more. but id say that its also a little steretypical as well, you know "i farm so i have to listen to country music." something like that.

Just a different lifestyle I guess. Country life is a lot more laid back and mellow, and the music reflects this mindset too.

Just what everyone else in the area listens to... Farmers can conform, too, y'know.
